Tonights Lost

13. Hearts and Minds
gs: Charles Mesure (Bryan) Kelly Rice (Nicole) Adam Leadbeater (Malcolm)

When Locke learns that Boone wants to tell their "secret" to Shannon, Locke decides to teach him a lesson, which leads to Shannon's life being "supposedly" placed in sudden peril. Also, Boone and Shannon's dark dark past is revealed in a shocking backstory that recalls his life with Shannon right before the plane crash and presages the return of the beast. Meanwhile, Kate who has become a confidante to Sun in the forest is puzzled by a soft-spoken Sun's mysterious behavior and revelation that she can speak English, and a hungry Hurley must repay a debt to Jin.

b: 12-Jan-2005 pc: 112 w: Carlton Cuse & Javier Grillo-Marxuach d: Rod Holcomb

NOTE: A Shannon and Boone centric episode.
Boone's last name is Carlisle, not Rutherford. Shannon's last name is still Rutherford.
It is also discovered that the beast causes people who come into contact with it to have hallucinations that may teach you a lesson.
Emilie de Ravin (Claire) does not appear in this episode.
It is learned in this episode that Boone and Shannon are step brother and sister and not biologically related. They previously had a relationship. (This is creepily important)
We also see that Sawyer was arrested in Sydney and he may have been wanted because the Australian police officer said that if he was Shannon's boyfriend, they would rush over to arrest him.

Um, that was actually part of the hallucination. Locke made him hallucinate by drugging him.

Still no explanation for the monster this week. It appeared in this episode as a figment of Boone's imagination - I think nightcrawler's take on the monster is off - it was locke's drug that made Boone hallucinate about the monster.

but didnt Locke say to Boone that looking at the monster makes you see things?

are we sure that it was Locke's concoction that lead to Boone's hallucinations? Or is it part of the mysterious island that causes it?

I now officially have no idea what this island really is, and am very curious to see how this ends up!

Kate is still drop-dead amazing looking though....

i think his exact words were something like, "so is THAT what it made you see?" (referring to boone seeing his sister die). he could be referring to either that goopy paste he was preparing (and was preparing before he bopped boone on the head) or the monster. im inclined to think it was the paste... certain tribal cultures have used drugs and trips to do soul searching and stuff. i assume locke knows about all this stuff and was planning on sending boone on one of these journeys for some time

just my take on it, like someone else said, if they explain everything there wont be any reason to watch!

I am not sure anyone mentioned it above, but boone and his sister, who is really his step sister and not related by blood, had sex and it was revealed he had sexual / romantic feelings for her. She was basically a jerk to him, and had set him up on multiple occasions by pretending to be in an abusive relationship, and then boone would pay her boyfriend to leave her. But in actuality it turns out she scammed him. That was all before they had not technically but still basically incest.

this was obvious from the beginning of the episode.

well he was just describing it for the OP who asked what happened.

Anyway, Boone said he felt relieved when he saw his sister die... I can tell you I for one was not... no more Shannon on LOST would be a big letdown. 🙂

Exactly why I think there is something "mysterious" about the island that causes the hallucinations

If there turns out to be a big evil moster roaming the island, I will smash my TV.

I am worried it's dinosaurs. They like to mention or show something briefly that has relevance later. And the whole "dinosaurs don't exist" line just smacks of foreshadowing. I say I am worried because that would unbelievably lame.

If it is something mysterious, then locke has solved the mystery. It was clear that he knew boon would hallucinate, be in no danger, and gain something out of the hallucination. The only reason I think it could be something other than the pasty goo is the scene in an earlier episode where Locke seemed to come face to face with the psychoc dinosaur elephant cloaking demon, had a small smile, and then later was perfectly ok.

I'm with you, torpid.. I really think it's more than just the magical goo placed on Boone's head.

So two episodes without Claire.. I wonder what is actually happening to her all this time and when they are going to revisit the fact that there are other people on the island.

Also, I'm still waiting for the fat dude's back story. He cracks me up.
