Wow, the center channel is so screwed up on this week's episode. It's ridiculously quiet and sounds like it was recorded through a wall.
I just watched this, and I had no issues.

The Rousseau thing was cool, but almost obvious when I heard the French, which is not a fault at all.
I thought the actress was horrible for the part. Other than the fact that they were both French speaking, she didn't resemble Rousseau at all.
The current younger actress looks too nice/chubby for the psycho she becomes. Otherwise, no problem.
Look to Castaway for an idea into that.
A very normal individual will become someone very different in personality and appearance when stranded alone for a long time, especially when fighting for survival on two fronts: island resources, and people who don't want you alive.
Spending 14 years on an island, by yourself (and apparently having a kid with Ben?!
😛) will make you a very different person.
So I think that the actress seeming much more personable and healthy was a great choice, whether intentional or not. Really, just about any younger girl/woman speaking French could have pulled it off.

So about all these 'near' paradoxes. Was this suddenly pulled out of the writers' asses in the past year, or are there actually hints going all the way back to the first season? Like when Sawyer found Kate and Claire in the jungle, was there a "someone's watching" vibe or leaves rustling in the original episode?
Overall, the past two episodes have been absolutely awesome. I especially like how they don't skip a week anymore before continuing with these inter-episode cliffhangers.
First part:
It might just be for sake of making some interesting moments with the time jumping, but I do know some of the moments have been downright amazing in terms of tying up the overall story.
They seemed to definitely have had an overall plan from the beginning, because it seems like many things are being introduced here beautifully. But that plan might not have been fully established in the first two seasons, but it seems many things are being tied up quite well starting with Season 3.
I think I definitely need to re-watch the first two seasons though once this season is over, because there might be some things hidden in there that were just kind of "wtf" or seemingly pointless in origin, yet are actually touched upon in this season.
No matter how they actually planned or didn't plan the entire overarching story, they are definitely pulling it off like gods. They are using something so ridiculous as time-travel (which probably definitely put off some people from sticking through to the series end, sadly), but as ludicrous as some of the shows concepts have been, starting with that damn polar bear, it all seems so wonderfully put together, especially as this season pushes on.
The connections with Witmore (Whidmore, Whitmore, however it's spelled) recently revealed are just one concept. Since Season 3 I think they definitely had an overall plan for the whole series, especially because wasn't it during Season 3 or Season 4 they established the fact that the series will have a hard end date, so I believe they at that point wrote up basic plots for every episode until the end at that point. And even before then, I wouldn't doubt if they already had basic concepts ironed out that they wanted to hit at points throughout the show. Hell, I wouldn't doubt if that Polar Bear had its entire story worked out before it was even introduced in Season 1 (premier, wasn't it? Or third or fourth episode?), ranging to why they were there (they were in cages elsewhere), to probably, sometime this season or next, why they were even there to begin with. All these little things really lead me to believe they had basic ideas for the entire series planned out, just how they were going to reveal them and when may not have been concrete (especially because at the beginning there was no established series end), and to that point, they have the plans but don't actually write the episodes until around filming.
Basically though, I cannot even begin to dream where the show will be by time the series is set to end. The series finale will probably be insanity to the max, and I'm expecting all of the pertinent details to be revealed either by that point or in the finale. And I fully expect to be talking about that finale for probably years. And probably being in a state of depression due to the show no longer being aired.
Second part:
I have a feeling they may jump back to that idea quite fast.
But who knows, so far this season is definitely appearing to be "island-centric". Even when the actual episode kind of revolves around a specific person for the story, as usual, everything pertinent is still keeping mostly to concepts revolving around the island.
But, we have already had skipped weeks in terms of cliffhangers.
That woman, Mrs. Hawking, who exactly is she? What is with her and Ben?
Is she Daniel Faraday's mom?
These things were from two episodes ago, and were skipped this past episode.
Then again, now thinking about it, these are normal show-style 'cliffhangers' and not really the every other week, character cliffhangers. But the show, two weeks ago, did end with Mrs. Hawking and Ben, and Desmond in search of Faraday's mom, and having ran into Witmore and all that jazz.
