I wish they added just a dash or realism and that Meredith came back, but as a vegetable. She could still be a part of the show as she would be forever hospitalized...
I think this show is going to have a hartd time coming back from this lame new emo direction they have taken...
Yea no doubt. I think I'll finish watching this season but I've really lost faith in the show. And with all due respect to Eits mother the whole reviving her was complete bullsh!t.
It got me thinking about the many resuscitation/medically emergent situations I've been involved in and I usually see about 5-6 per shift nowadays...plus my other roughly 2 years working in a hospital floor I've seen a patient survive ONCE without brain damage when extended cardiac arrest happened. Even then he spent about 2 MONTHS in ICU(and certainly wasn't extubated/taken off ventilator support for a couple weeks), and another month or so on a regular unit. Didn't have any neurological deficits per say but did have to learn to walk again.
Usually people in prolonged cardiac arrest
die. Even when hypothermic....
Watch the ER episode from last night. That did a great job illustrating the problems with reviving someone who is 'cold' and it had just as much drama if not more since it wasnt a main character.
And usually when we do revive someone the brain damage is devastating. I would have much preferred they saved her(albeit a wee bit more realistically) and let her have brain damage...not to mention from a medical standpoint giving her THAT much epinephrine would have probably kept her heart stopped. Epi is terribly irritating to the heart muscle when too much is given....but hell it's TV it's not supposed to be real until someone's family member is on the verge of death and they accuse us of not doing enough or that we should have done this cuz a TV show saved someone that way and we're incompetent medical professionals who don't know what they are doing...
