Tonight's Christmas Eve Moon

A bit soft, what TC? I wish I had a nice long lens to do moon shots but the longest I have is the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. I need to get the Canon TC's.

That's awesome, but you can't see the "CHA" on it. 🙁

Well, I'm debating that. It's the Kenko Teleplus Pro 300. I have to admit that the testing conditions are very far from ideal. It was obviously manual focus because there's no way in heck that the Rebel XT will autofocus at f/13 (f/6.3 at the 500mm end). And considering that manual focus is really hard on the XT... plus the fact that I was shooting at 1600mm at 1/100s at effectively f/16, with a moving moon... I'm actually kinda ok with the shots that I got. Not too bad though. Got it for $95 shipped.

You certainly used a tripod then 😛 Did you try f/8? It's usually acceptable for moon shots. I don't know how hard manual focus is with the XT. I have a 20D and it does rather well in that respect. I'm assuming the viewfinder in the XT isn't as good. But I do like the shot 🙂

Yup, tripod was a Feisol 3301 and the ballhead was a really poopy Bogen-Manfrotto 486RC2 that can't handle the Bigma too well. I made those shots at f/8 (f/16 effectively because of the TC). Manual focus on the XT is just a guessing game, especially with the tiny details of the moon. I can't wait for my new 30D to get in. Still debating if I should sell my XT after I get my 30D. I could probably use the cash, but the little thing holds sentimental value and could be valuable as a backup body.
