wait wait... you KNOW hes CURRENTLY, at this very second working on it and youre not telling him? thats horrible dude
drive over there now or call him. Id be more pissed at you for that than the whole deal falling through. The deal collapsing is just life/business... it sucks but get used to it. However you should tell him NOW and let him stop wasting MORE time on it...

As someone said, you know how to comfort him. And just remember, an ounce of KY equals a pound of Preparation H.

OMFG, tell him NOW before he puts in anymore time and effort!! If I was your friend I would be seriously PISSED OFF that you didn't tell me ASAP so I didn't have to waste more time and effort and money on a moneypit.

well, did you promise him something when he originally agreed to work for you? Is there anything you are leaving out? Be careful with what you say, you have to protect yourself from getting sued or ruining your reputation. 30k is not chump change.

i'm so fvcked..i know. i'm at work now too pretty far away from him if not i would have gone to tell him.
if so much harder coz ever since this started we have been hanging around so much he's like calling me or regarding me as one of his 'own', like a family buddy. its so screwed. It was an honest mistake, he didn't ask, and i didn't volunteer the 'extra' info. So it seems that extra is gonna kill this deal. I so wanted him to get the money and all i wanted was the project done. Now, i get to play assholle.

WTF.. can you explain a little more how you convinced this guy to do 100s of hours of work without any sort of PLAN?

and WTF is a clerical error that dumps 30k in one fell swoop with no way to recover it?

no, thats not what i'm worried about. payment doesn't come from me anyways. its like we're kinda on the same boat but he's the bigger loser since all i lost was a project but he lost mucho time and effort...driving all over the county to get it done.

The thing is, regardless of what happens he will have significant beef with you. Nobody in their right mind works like he did without a contract or some form of payment while doing the work. What's to stop him from thinking you used his work and now will collect all the profit? On the other hand, he does not seem very busy savy, is he much younger than you????

is there no way to salvage the project?

How can a clerical error screw it up?

Cheers,

lets just say we just found out the eventual client is NOT eligible for the program and thus it will get nixed and down the drain we all go.

No such thing as easy money, don't count your chickens, etc., etc. Chalk it up to lesson learned.
