Picked one up for $149.95 + tax today. This is my first GPS unit. Pretty cool little device.

Anyone else have one and have any suggestions on things to download or options to set?

Let me know if you find a way to update the POI to a better set. I've been disappointed. There aren't a lot of locations in there and it doesn't seem up to date.

I looked up the nearest Firestone and drove past another one on the way. I looked up a Target only to find it had been closed a few years ago, and it wasn't the closest one either.

are you updating the software and maps through the tomtom home software?

I bought a TT1 a few weeks ago for $130 AR, returned it a week later. It was extremely inconsistent in picking up a signal, and now Target's had the Magellan 3100 on clearance for $75. I don't mind a slightly older model. Hackable to 6M POIs too.

Yes, I updated a few weeks ago.

BTW, I live in Austin. Can any people from Austin chime in telling if their Tom Tom sucks or not? Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I've owned one for over a year and a half now. It's a good little unit. It's never let me down and I've never had any problems with it, though it might need updating soon with new maps etc.

Might want to check out poifriend.com for user made POIs.
tomtomforums.com

If you want to convert or create your own poi, check out poiedit.com.

And I would suggest joining the mapshare for updated pois from tomtomhome.

If you're still trying to delete a favorite, change preferences/>/manage favorites.

I just got the One 3rd edition from Buy.com for $79 after rebate. It is refurbished, but you would never know it by looking at it. Overall, for my first GPS, I am quite pleased......

Get a Garmin. I have the Nuvi 350. You'll never go back.

It's about the size of a deck of cards, picks up a signal indoors, and has LOUD speakers for voice directions. It also will read e-books to you (pretty cool :) ).

If you just picked it up, remember to run the latest map guarantee

In TomTom Home, goto tools, and select user latest map guarantee.
Map sure you back your tomtom first.

I got the TomTom One 3rd Edition and it lets me add POIs into it myself + download POI that others added in. So it's almost infinitely expandable. Unless you seriously live in the middle of nowhere. Plus I can create my own startup images and etc. I love the thing. I got it from Fry's on Black friday for $99 (no rebates).

edit:

Also, this is all done using the TomTom Home Software.
