It's worth noting that you also have to buy the hands free car kit anyway for the iPhone since in many states and provinces, using a handheld mobile phone for any purpose while driving is illegal. The car kit with software is rumoured to cost nearly $200 according to Engadget. While the iPhone's GPS feature is handy (I use it a lot for my job), I think what TomTom wants is a bit too much money to ask for what basically amounts to a spoken word book of maps.

My feelings exactly. Maps is fine for my purposes--I don't absolutely have to have turn-by-turn directions spoken to me, as I go. But, some people do.

I'd just buy a tomtom or a garmin at these prices.

Exactly.. The lowest end Tom Tom is like $100. Why would I spend $100 on a half butt solution on my iPhone when I can get a full fledged GPS for $100?
Even at $50 though, I don't think I'd buy it.

I would have gotten it at $50, or $100 if it included the dock.
