In Anandtech's review, if you look at the Rainbow Six: Vegas scores, the 2900XT smokes the 8800GTS, and basically matches the 8800GTX. This game is the first game to use the Unreal 3.0 engine, and the Unreal engine is by far the most licensed engine in the industry. This is why I think the R600 is going to do much better in future games, including DX10 games, which will be much more shader intensive. I think this is also part of why AMD delayed the cards so much. UT3 and Crysis are right around the corner and I think things are going to start looking much better for AMD once those games come out.

BUt even with this price I think GTSs are better choice. Anyhow I don't think R600 is a complete failure but it's obvious that this isn't a superior product compare to 8800s. How the hell they made that conclusion is beyond any logic even defies their own numbers. Why, is anyone's guess.

He likes it because he isn't looking at just FPS in games at this moment with this card. This card brought so many new things to the table that we are lucky it works as well as it does. I think the review shares the same sentiment that I do in the fact that this card is going to lead to other, not good, not great, but fantastic cards. 65nm is right around the corner as is the XTX. I think DAAMIT is using this card as a consumer test for their next high end card. No doubt though, I have no intention of buying right now. If the price is right I might consider this when the refresh comes out (current post-refresh x1800xt owner). I'm used to hot, hungry and loud and have the PSU to tough it out. Don't think that this is a failed product, its setting a foundation for advances to come.

Yeah that is a worrying sign. At the moment though it seems hard to buy the 2900XT when a 8800GTS can be had for around $60 less without upgrading the PSU.

Exactly my thoughts. As DX10 games and final DX9 games begin to use more and more shaders, this card will show it's true strength. ATi has always been more about the shaders, and this time is no different. The only thing that worries me is the low amount of TMUs... that's one addition I've liked about nVidia the past couple of years.
