2.8ns ram on all the GF4 ti cards definitely puts the 4200 the best bang for the buck.

<< Would you like some crackers with that cheese? >>

No, but I will take a glass of Chianti. 😀

The Radeon doesn't have stellar 2D, just better than NVidia. Ideally I'd prefer something closer to 3dfx or Matrox, but I have the feeling that's wishful thinking. If the problem is simply filters which some claim, I don't see why companies don't try and fix the problem, unless it is something more serious than that. I would gladly pay $25-30 more even on a $400 card to get top notch 2D, but no one seems willing to do it. Just another negative byproduct of releasing too many versions of cards and creating too much competition driving companies to penny saving cost cuts.

I don't know, it's very hard to believe 4200 prices. If it is true however, ATI will have to do massive price cuts. 220/500 GF4 easily dominates 275/550 Radeon 8500, and extra 64Mb will not help em there.

<< 2.8ns ram on all the GF4 ti cards definitely puts the 4200 the best bang for the buck. >>

sho' nit? so a ti4600 is just a 4200 guaranteed to hit 650mhz memory? big difference in the core speed though...

<<Since when did 3DFX have good image quality?>>

I thought their V4/V5 was pretty damn good in 2D image quality, I've been very happy with the 2D performance of the Voodoo series overall.

Out of the some ~20 V4/V5's I have seen, I was never impressed. I guess my zealotry hinders my eyesight? Nah...... 😉

Couple of things I noticed...

1. Why the hell is he using Win98 SE as his test OS?

2. Why is he using old versions of current games...like v1.17 of Q3 when it's up to v1.30 or so?

3dfx cards have a much sharper highres image quality. I've relegated my Radeon 8500 to my second system for that reason, along with the fact the TV-out is more useful on that system. The Nvidia cards I have and have used were unbearable at 1600, I've always had to drop them to 1280 if I wanted to read text. At the rate things are going, I'll probably be stuck with a V5 in my main system forever.

For $980 I could put together a top notch system minus monitor. I can't fit that card in my case either. The V5500 is already a very tight fit.

I wish nVidia had kept it simple--one GeForce4, one GeForce4 MX, and maybe later on introduce a GeForce4 Ultra or something. Six video cards is overkill.

Bah, if they had only introduced one of each we wouldn't have that tasty looking Ti4200, we'd only have the far too expensive Ti4600.

Or they would have gave us the 4200 and introduce the 4600 as an "ultra" card.

I like simplicity.

How long before we start seeing these hit the shelves?
I know the mx's are going on sale at compusa this weekend, but no mention of the ti's

In that scenario they would probably give it to us at the price the 4600 is at now. 😛

Heard end of the month at the earliest.

Wow that 4200 if it does include the fastest ram will be sweet!

Me three!!!!😀😀😀😀

I think i was over hyped, i guess it will take a while b4 Cards can run games at 1280X1024 at everything setted to the max. or even at 1600X1200. Beverthe less, you would like a Ti4600 thank you.

<< What on earth is wrong with NVidia? What's the purpose of releasing seven different variations of the Geforce 4 on top of the 3 dozen geforce 2 and 3 variations still being sold? Are there really that many distinct markets? Not to mention all the Geforce 4 cards aren't even based on 4th generation technology. Talk about confusing the customer, this is getting to an extreme level. ATI is no saint when it comes to too many variations, but NVidia is in a league of their own in an apparent attempt to win the market by simply flooding it with cards that perform far too close to each other to make a difference. Companies should be limited to a highend, budget, and maybe an AIW type card, not like anyone cares about the variations in between. I hope they get the 2D image quality junk and TV out quality fixed, because the 4600 does perform quite impressively. >>

I agree. Having 3 product line is fine, like a 4600, 4400, 4200. It is really pointless, confusing. Dont get me wrong, i love to have a GF4 though 😀

Pariah,

I recently sold my V5 because I figured it's no use in WinXP since there are no official drivers. To tell you the truth, my Ti500 is doing just fine in 2D, I can't really see a difference, not in 1280x1024, nor in 1600x1200. But I paid $30 some for a high quality monitor cable, those $10 generic cables don't cut either way.

John, I thought it was only the Ti4600 which had the 2.8 ns RAM. I'm excited about the dual VGA capability of the Ti series cards. I can finally dual monitor and remove that damn PCI video card!!
