The hard drive's 5400 rpm, but thats still a NICE price for a 45 gb. Is the rebate from CompUSA, or is it a manufacturer's rebate?

sepen,

i ran the sku you posted for the 99.99 hard drive and it came up as a western digital caviar 45 gig 5400 rpm eide drive. current price is $209.99

if this is correct, that makes this deal that much better! i bought one of these exact same drives about 4 mos ago at fry's electronics for $189.00 (after $30 rebate, which i got 1 month later) and it rocks! very quiet and stable and even tho 5400rpm sounds slow compared to 7200rpm, it was definitely fast enough for me!

Hey guys. I can't believe the price on the WD. As far as the burners, I have checked and can't find out who makes them. I did pick up the IOMagic one though. Will get it adjusted tomorrow.

Good hunting...

In think CC had the WD for $100 this week. Or 130 with 30 rebate. Not sure.

Roommate is putting together a computer and read about all sorts of troubles with the WD 45GB drives. Not sure if they have fixed those problems or not, but this could be one reason they are so cheap.

personally, i've not heard of any other problems w/ this drive, but i could be wrong. just from my experience, i've had my wd 45 gig caviar for about 4 mos now and it works great so far. perfect for storing isos and projects that require ridiculous amounts of space like ripping dvd's and converting to to vcd format :)

just my humble opinion, but i think the price drops are really an effect of technology's onward march. you can now get 80+ gig drives in retail stores (~$320 and ~$270 oem). i remember 2 years ago, a 10.0 gig drive was selling for $169.99 (after $30 rebate) and that was a major deal then! by this time 2 years from now, i'm sure you can find a terabyte drive for $100.00 after rebate :);)

We all know about the $30 rebate from Western Digital, WHere is the info for the other $60?

I don't think the price for a 45g will be $99.99 after rebate, that seems way too low at this point from COMPUSA. SOmetimes they have the 20g HD's for $99, so a 45g will be alot more.

ok. i decided to go out and get one of these puppies today. price is 209.99 , with tax, it came out to 226.26

when i asked the rep there about the rebates, he was absolutely clueless about it (as he was with all products behind the counter). which is something that can be said for pretty much all compusa reps everywhere :p at any rate, i went to the rebate board and found 2 rebates. the standard $30 WD rebate and a $60 compusa/WD rebate. the details of the $60 rebate says :

Offer valid only at CompUSA 10/7/00 thru 10/14/00. Requests must be postmarked by 10/28/00.

here's the low down on it. for the $30 rebate, you need to send the original UPC as proof of purchase (POP). for the $60 rebate, you need to send the "original WD capacity label" as the POP.

what i hope to see tomorrow is a drop in price from 209.99 to 189.99
as that'll make the hard drive 99.99 after rebates. unless there's another rebate that i missed? anyone know? asking for help at the store was like trying to find water in the middle of the Sahara.:D:p:cool::confused:

CenDyne does not make their own burners. Their 8x4x32 model is actually a Plextor 8x4x32, so the 6x model may be a Plextor as well, not sure tho.
