Tomorrow is naked gardening day

Well, that’s one more 90-year-old dick than I was planning on seeing today.

In hindsight, naked gardening may have spared me from the near death heat stroke I had fun with today. Took a tree down with the chainsaw and was running its branches through the mulcher/chipper when I realized something wasn't quite right. Got dizzy/lightheaded, my heart was racing, etc. Barely made it inside. My eyeballs went completely red. Almost blacked out a couple times. Ended up drinking a couple gallons of water/gatorade and sitting in a cold shower for about an hour before I could make it to bed and pass out for another hour. I was an idiot - it's friggin hot out there.

Of course, naked gardening would have meant even more spider / ant bites. Got a few of those today.

Yet more proof equatorial climes aren't fit for human habitation. You wouldn't have had that problem in Finland ;^)

On a slightly more serious note, you need to be careful running dangerous equipment in the heat. You can get slow and sloppy without realizing it, and bad things can happen. I pretty much hang my saws up in the spring, and pick it back up when it's fit to be outside. If the job can wait a year, let it sit. It's not worth losing a body part or a life over.

I found that when I was working on my shed, I would start to get careless and complacent with power tools. Sometimes had to take a step back and a breather and just remind myself to be more careful. Just feel so sluggish and gross working in heat.

If I build an off grid property most of the work I do will probably be in winter for that reason. That and rain. In summer it rains too much and it sucks having to tarp everything every night. Biggest issue with working in winter is my hands get cold though. But if I was planing to do it for a long time I would try to figure something out, like heated gloves or something.

There's an unwritten rule that most people that want to be naked in public are they same people nobody wants to see naked in public.

You actually lose more water naked than with clothes on. Burning Man 101
