Today was the calm before the storm. A bunch of use took 3 hours off to go "Dude, Where's My Car?" whcih I highly reccomend. Screw critics who like stuck of Eastern Europeon Indepdendant films by guy's who's names I can't pronounce without sticking a spoon up my nose!!!! But I digress....
One of my arch enemies "Fat Bitch" is at it again. (HEY DENIS, HOW ABOUT ONE OF YOU PICS TO SERVE AS A VISUAL AIDE?) A recap for the newer members, she think's she is "DBA" because works on one MS Access database. Beside that she knows jacks squat. She designed it and it's a whale (her and the database). It's 1.5GB and must be used on a local machine. She goes around thinking her crap doesn't stink because she is the only person of her type the got a laptop. Her manager got it for her because she sick of the stupid wench whining all the time. So this pig goes around telling people, "Oh.. I can't believe I have to work at home." "This laptop is such a curse because I work 100 hours a week." "They don't pay me enough to lug this thing around" BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.... Everyone around her is sick of her (including me) because she always talks a big game but never follows through. Many want to have the same luxury but as internal sales and support they didn't plan on issuing laptops. The next upgrade cycle is in 2 1/2 years so most are stuck with desktops.
Last Friday I overheard one say, "That stupid bitch, I'd use my personal laptop if I could" Waaaaaaaait a minute.......
I told her that it wasn't a problem and to bring it in so I could load a company mail client, company apps, and call corporate HQ to arrange a dailup account. She was ecstatic since her area was the West coast which mean her work very long hours. Today she brought it in and I got everything done for her. After that every sales rep with a home system asked for the same which I obliged.
Anyway "Fat Bitch" went nuts. She tried to embarrass me infront of everyone and instead shot herself in the foot. Her arguments in a nutshell.
"It's a security risk"
"Uhhhh.... weren't you the one that has a laptop stolen 2 months ago because you stupidly left it in plain view in the back of your car? Plus unlike your laptop, the personal one will never leave the house"
"It costs too much"
"The only cost is her time and my time. The equipment is hers. The local dialup numbers costs money whether 1 or 100 people use it so no extra cost there. Plus why would any manager object to having someone work extra hours?"
"They'll screw up my database"
"Last time I checked, each person has a local copy. The chances of a screwup are nil since the only thing that is happening is files are being copied. In the non-existant event of a "screwup" the only person affected will be K___ M___"
"But it's too slow to be prductive"
"All the outside sales force uses the same suite of software and they report no speed issues. KM has tried it and was surpised that it was not as slow as anticipated."
She then got really angry and started ranting about how no one is team player and the people responsible for this "waste of time meeting" should be fired. I then reminded Shamu that it was her that called the meeting and I has first dibs on her cubicle after it was fumigated. Everyone around burst out laughing including all the managers (who also hate her guts). She was pretty pissed and left early (as usual). Needless to say I got a lot of offers to buy me lunch.
Tomorrow morning it is going to be 1 against 12. Myself and KM will be in early to meet with their manager for a final revision of the plan. All the other sales will be there to offer moral support. Someone has offered to buy donuts for a 7:30AM pep rally to get us fueled up.
