AMD has been very hush hush lately. Very unlke Intel's glamourous PR. It's hard to imagine such an engineering minded company without a future. Merom/Conroe's success comes mainly from the 4 issue design and extra alu. It's very indicative that K8L with double the FP units will compete quite well. If Intel keeps up the marketing slam dunk, we might be able to see AMD selling extremely cheap CPUs again. Let's hope.
ps. AM2 is mainly a response to upgrade to DDR2. It may offer tiny performance increase, but it will let users buy cheaper DDR2 because DDR will be phased out.
