Here's a little quote...

<< It is extremely rare that a movie is so bad that it actually makes me angry, but Tomb Raider is that rarity. The movie is lazy. It doesn't even try to make sense. This movie isn't worth your time. Tomb Raider isn't fun, sitting through it is nearly torture, and I'd recommend doing just about anything this weekend over doing that. >>

I wouldn't put too much faith in a site call "Ain't it Cool News," but...

Anyway, I never listen to the critics. If the previews attract me, I usually like the movie. The only movie that has failed me on that notion is the Matrix which I hated.

I was unaware that Simon West, the infamously atrocious director behind the dreadful Con Air

I thought Con Air was pretty good. Doesn't mean sh*t.

Ain't It Cool is the Sharky Extreme of movie review sites.

Harry Knowles, the guy who runs the site, gave "The Faculty" a four-star rating. Coincedently, "The Faculty" stars one Harry Knowles (he's the fat red-headed teacher with the beard carrying water jugs around.)

I've heard from some other sources that Tomb Raider is a fun, summer movie. Screw Harry Knowles, and screw Ain't It Cool.

It's impossible to overclock a VCR these days. Thank goodness for fast forward. :)

Cheers!

Is anyone shocked that a movie based on 'Tomb Raider' would be bad? That said, I take the reviews with a grain of salt - Ain't it Cool isn't the best review site around...

They get the scoops, but are lacking when it comes to reviews....

Even so, I don't plan to see it until it's repeated on HBO about fifty times.

I loved "The X-Men", "Superman: The Movie", and "Batman".

The first thing I thought when I heard that TR was coming to theater was "Great, now all the under-sexed TR players can have a real person to jack off too." I quickly reached a conclusion that I had no interest in seeing it and although Jolie weakens that stand to a small degree I remain firm!

I would rather throw $10 into the toilet than spend it on tickets for this movie.

<< This movie has always looked like a dud to me, especially with that Jolie chick acting in it... >>

You make it seem like she's a bad actress...but she does have 3 Golden Globes and an Oscar.

I'll go see it despite any reviews although Angelina Jolie does nothing for me. I never understood the hype over her being hot.

Like NFS4 said, I don't usually listen to critics anyway. They told me that "The Rock" wasn't that great of a movie, I loved it, they told me "Titanic" was AWESOME, it was alright, they told me "Pearl Harbor" sucked, it rocked, see the pattern? It looks like Tomb Raider will actually be a good movie!

:p

I think the BIGGEST indicator of the potential 'suckiness' of this movie is in the fact that critics are not allowed to review it till Friday Morning (that info was taken from the article).

If anyone recalls, 'The Avengers' was another movie with the same Critic limitation.

Hearing something like that, for me, is like hearing a stock is about to go through a Reverse Split...It's NOT a good sign!

The thing you have to keep in mind is the mindset of the reviewer. Are they looking for artistic merits or just a buzz coming out of the theater? Take the Matrix, for instance. Artistically, it doesn't compare to something like, say, Memento. So what? I had such a buzz when I came out of the theater the first time I saw it (Matrix), and it's still my favorite all time movie. So I tend to be wary when critics bash a movie for not having artistic merits.

Namuna, you are so right, though. Remember The Art of War, with Wesley Snipes? That movie looked pretty cool from the previews, but oddly familiar. Then I noticed on opening Friday, no one had a review posted because critics weren't allowed to see it that day. Why? Because as the review posted the following day pointed out, it was a carbon-copy of US Marshals.

My unbiased :)P) impression of Tomb Raider, from the previews, is that it's sort of like The Mummy. No plot to speak of, lots of action (sort of) except this time we have a sassy female lead instead of a goofy guy. I'm not going to see it, but if you liked The Mummy, I don't think you'll feel too ripped off with this movie. Go see it in the afternoon, though. Matinee rates are our friend. :D

Critics are nonexistant to me - and their opionions mean nothing. There's no way in hell I won't see a movie just because it doesn't conform to a critic's tastes...
