i actually liked that game despite hating those types of games. combat was easy as hell and the first hour had stupid quicktime button press events that I don't like but the puzzles and open world were nice and the cinematic feel was pretty epic

I've got an hour into the new Tomb Raider, and now I'm playing the other games I got during the sale.

Not impressed with it at all, except maybe graphically. Walk into room, instantly see how to proceed from the only obvious way/item/burn-able, do that and repeat. And yea, QTE is fucking retarded; anyone that puts that crap into a game deserves to be shot.

Will give it another try eventually, but I'll probably play the originals first.

QTE isn't "fucking retarded" it's only so when they do it wrong. Look at God of War, Last of Us, or Shenmue for an example of a correctly used QTE system.

QTE work well in the game, they're used sparingly and usually during frantic struggling in cut scenes which adds to the suspense and urgency of the game.

I don't get the hate for QTE :/

I have mixed feelings about QTE. I think they are used too much anymore, but I also think that they can be done well and when they are, it's a great way to allow the player to be put in more specific and interesting situations which aren't just resolved by shooting something with a gun or hacking it with an axe.

So, I say that if QTEs are used sparingly, and done well... they have a place in games.

I felt the ones in Tomb Raider were done well.
