Tomb Raider - Anniversary IS a remake of the original

I've seen this question asked many times and for some reason it always fails to get answered.
Is Tomb Raider - Anniversary a remake of the original?
YES!
After watching a few videos the nostalgia overcame me.
Even the sound effects and music are the same(loved the audio from the first game). I wasn't big on any of the sequels but I bit the bullet and decided to take a trip back into time.
Will be fun to play this with the updated graphics engine.
Anyone play this yet?
(I'm more interested in opinions from those who played the original back in the day)

I played through about 2/3 of it and really enjoyed it. I never played the original, though.

I was quite surprised how well it played with the KB and mouse.

I'm happy about that as well. I tried a gamepad with a resident evil game awhile back and just decided that my gamepad days are over. Very pleased with the mouse/kboard controls.

I've not played Tomb Raider Anniversary but Legend worked very well with a Mouse + KB combo as well. Excellent game too... 🙂

Wonderful game. The great thing is that its not a 1:1 remake of the original but a brand new game. It shares all the main themes (greek, egypt..etc) and the more memorable puzzles and sights of the original (sphinx, inca gear puzzle, dinos, midas puzzle..etc) but the stages are all brand new.

The only stage that feels and is designed almost the same is the great St. Francis Folly stage which looks better than ever and was always one of my fav levels from the original. The music is mostly new with a remix of the original theme and some choice remakes of other tunes. I do wish they gave you the choice of using the old music from the original game as an option but thats ok.

The control is also great since it uses the TR: Legend engine and control scheme. Recommended!

I just discovered yesterday that the music was a remix as well.
I was most bummed about that and have been trying to find an app that will let me replace the audio files with the original ones but it doesn't look like one exists to date.

The original tomb raider games were awesome because they were so difficult (mostly due to controls) and there was so many ways to die! However, I must say that underworld does a good job at capturing the complexity of the old puzzles. Unfortunately, the story for underworld was a big meh.

+1
I enjoyed anniversary and the original years back.
And im really enjoying Underworlds puzzles also, they have that old "feeling".
Like when you first start a puzzle, you think "this is impossible", yet when you finally do get it all figured out, you really feel a sense of accomplishment.
