tomb raider 2013 is how pc versions should be done imo

I was never a TR fan on the consoles back in the day, but when they started coming to the PC I started to play them and enjoyed them a reasonable amount, I thought the reboot for the PC was absolutely brilliant, they really nailed it on so many levels, there was some of the typical console/noob/casual stuff in there but it was also just a damn good game for so many other reasons, It's one of the few games I continued to play through to 100%

Started? Tomb Raider was always released for the PC first, then consoles a few months later.

I'm a KB+Mouse type of guy, but I do have a theater with a 104" screen. Is this game better played on a computer with KB+M or will I fare well with my 360 controller on the big screen?

I actually did both and steam cloud allowed me to go back amd forth between tv, xbox 360 controller, and monitor, kb&m. I enjoyed them both and they both have there perks. Monitor is 1680 x 1050 and tv id 1080p lcd. Thought it looked better on monitor I guess because everything's squeezed smaller. Enjoyed the kb&m better w/ aiming of course. With the tv just layed around w/ controller. Both were good experience though.

I haven't bought a Tomb Raider game since Legend (also by Crystal Dynamics), because of its control system, which, if I had a choice between poking myself in the eye or playing that game again, I'd prefer to poke myself in the eye.

I had a quick go at the Tomb Raider Underworld demo but the control system was still pretty poor.

TR 1 through 5 had the control system right, IMO.

Since TR 2013 doesn't have a playable demo AFAIK, I can't try it before buying. Perhaps I might risk it if the price drops to a fiver at some point. I liked the look of it.

Your elitism is showing. There are games that work better on a controller and are perfectly fine on PC. There's absolutely nothing wrong with plugging in an Xbox 360, XB1, or PS4 controller and using it with a PC game.

The only thing that is probably a little better with a mouse is aiming the bow. The movement is better suited to analog where you have varying degrees of movement available rather than simply on or off button commands for up, down, left, right.


The thing I wish that this game had on PC was an update to include the enhanced particle and weather effects from the PS4/XB1 Definitive Edition. Those effects work really well with the game.

An opinion is not trolling, PC "Versions" shouldn't target console controllers as a primary/beneficial input method. Yes it has a variety of graphics options available which is a good thing (it should be mandatory on PC Games) but graphics options alone does not make a PC "Version" good.

Report away if you really want to, just don't expect vibrant discussions with that kind of attitude.

It's an option, one that happens to work better for many titles. Also yes, the reason many people use their PC to play certain games is for the extra graphics options. Your argument that "real PC gamers only use a mouse and keyboard" is pretty pathetic.

Ah the days of playing Wing Commander Prophecy with my Thrustmaster.

PC's are great for their flexibility they can play everything. I can play an RTS, I can play an MMO, I can even play a stupid mobile app. On the hardware end its got support for all types of electronics. Including a controller. Pigeonholing PC's to a single input method or type of game causes it to lose what makes it great.

That isn't true and wouldn't explain why pc's have had controller options since long before consoles were popular. I for one find controllers to be a much better input system for third person games just for analog movement controls and easier management of movement, camera adjustments, and actions all being done at the same time.

But even if that wasn't the case for you. It is the case for a lot of people.

I hate to break it to you, but PCs have had gamepads for decades now, and they're a superior form of input for many types of games. The best thing about being a PC gamer is that you get a choice of input. By completely ignoring an input method, you are diminishing your own experience. If that's what you'd like, great. Just don't try to push your viewpoint onto others, when it is ridiculous to begin with.

You have the option to play with a gamepad, it does not mean the game will play better. You have the option to get used auto parts from the junk yard, it does not mean they'll be as good as new from the factory, for example.

I'd guess you'd prefer to spend hours stuck in a single area, unable to progress the plot or gameplay because you're dicking with a rope and pulley or a water weight puzzle.

Thats kinda what Tomb Raider was. Exploring, puzzles, platforming, and shooting lots of spiders and bats. If you can't figure out a puzzle, you can always look it up. Didn't the reboot even have a built-in hint system? They could have put in more tombs with puzzles for the traditional TR fans, and the people who don't like them could just avoid them.

I'm kinda split on the reboot. Not enough exploring or puzzles, too many QTEs, and way too much torture porn. Its not a bad game though. I wonder if I would have liked it if it didn't have the bow. I found that fairly satisfying. On launch the only annoying technical issue was were the graphics would just freak out. I don't remember the specific details, its probably in the main TR thread. And then there was that BS with the AMD optimized hair. Otherwise, it was pretty good. Square seems to do a good job with their PC games. Its too bad they don't sell that well.

Notice how on the PC the trees don't sway in the wind and rustle the branches and on the Xbox One the lighting is better as well. Small things like this were added on to the engine for the PS4 and XB1. I wish there was a patch or addition for the PC to add this as well. So no, PC version isn't superior in every way...especially not the environment as shown below. There are some scenes where the old model for Laura is better and others where I feel the new one works better. The textures and options for AA are the only things I can say for certain are better on the PC.

For about 5 minutes, then I set the controller aside. I only bought my X360 controller to use with Injustice, fighting genre; 1 of the two aforementioned genres that plays better with a controller.
