Tomato or DD-WRT for Buffalo WHR-HP-G54?

The Buffalo Firmware is Good as is, and what ever you mentioned in the OP works well with configuration out of the Box.

So it is all down to More Features.

I.e., use whatever provides the features that you need.

If you have to Flash just for staying Cool and fashionable, then use Tomato.

Why? It is the easiest to flash, and less chance for Bricking.

Tomato has the best user interface of the two. DD-WRT might have a few more advanced functions and documentation may not be the easiest to follow. But Tomato serves me well (been using it since for about 3 yrs now) and I didn't like some of the questionable ethics/practices of the DD-WRT team.

I use Tomato, but to second Jack, I'd leave it as is unless you need the advanced features. If you don't need to flash, you only have something to lose by doing so(bricking). I did mine because I was(thought I was) having router issues. I determined I had little to lose. My issues cleared up, but it may not have been the router in the first place. Using Tomato I was able to boost the power of the transmitter, and that seemed to help when I was using a particularly crappy wifi adapter. All my adapters are good now, and I'm using the defaults. Tomato is the same as Linksys for the way I'm currently using it.

I flashed it with dd-wrt. It was ok, but I wanted to try something else. So I flashed it with tomato. It was ok too. But then I realized - why am I using this? It's not giving me anything I need - so I reflashed with stock firmware and I'm just as happy.

But, if you want to play, I was happier with tomato than I was with dd-wrt. It had less issues with tomato on. DD would occasionally throw a spaz-attack and I'd have to reboot the router to get it back running. No idea why.

I set up two wireless routers recently, An Asus 520gu and a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. I found the stock Asus firmware pretty much unusable. I ended up using Tomato on the Asus, as I could not get the stock firmware to work correctly. Tomato was great. I was able to set up the stock firmware on the Buffalo with no major issues. I found the Tomato firmware to be far easier to configure than either the Asus or Buffalo firmware, though the Buffalo wasn't bad, just not very intuitive.

I would try with the stock firmware first and if you have issues, try the tomato.

I put dd-wrt (build 13064) on a Buffalo whr-hp-g54, it's been working well. I'll try Tomato some day when I have free time...

I have dd-wrt (an early build: DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) std) on my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. I've been having terrible issues lately and much help from my ISP, Sonic.net, has determined that everything's fine except probably the router. I can't download large files without frequent random pauses (that require intervention to resume), of downloads fail outright. I also get audio dropouts in Webex streaming videos every 4.5 to 5 minutes 80+ percent of the time.

I could go to a newer version of dd-wrt, but I really think I don't need much in the way of advanced features and I think I should stick with Tomato or Buffalo firmware at this point.

Can I flash straight to Tomato from dd-wrt or should I flash to Buffalo first?
