Tomato firmware bandwith limiter not working

I have a Linksys WRT54GS with the 1.28 Shibby build. I have a 150mbps connection and over 10 devices that are connected to the network. I am trying to limit the bandwith speed on certain mac addresses as they seem incapable of understanding how torrenting effects the network as a whole. I tried to limit their download and upload rate/ceil yet even after saving the settings they seem to be downloading at max rate as opposed to the new rules i have set.

Anyone have any idea how I can get the bandwith limiter to work?

should just log into the router and find the bandwidth limiter settings area (should be something like: http://192.168.1.1/bwlimit.asp)

here's a guide that should work: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.ph...ter-for-tomato-mod-release-user-manual.26670/

basically, you want to make sure you add the devices you want to limit and then make sure their download/upload ceilings are comfortably below your maximums, and you might also benefit from the priority/TCP/UDP limit settings, particularly TCP for torrents

if its not working, it might be time to reset the router, or maybe even get a new router altogether (pretty sure that router has only 100mbps ethernet ports, so you're probably bottle-necking your 150mbps connection...wouldn't be surprised if the router was also simply getting overwhelmed by that number of devices)

It could be a bug with the Shibby firmware.

If the above post doesn't work, maybe try using QoS for the BitTorrent traffic.

could be a bug not necessarily with the firmware, but the hardware

I use Tomato v1.28 shibby on my ASUS N66U and the bandwidth limiter works just fine

but yeah, the QoS might work, albeit its probably a bit more intimidating to set up

My setup is exactly the same as the guide, it still doesnt work even after a reboot.

have you tried limiting via IP address? That's how I had it running on my RT-N66U when I had Tomato on it. Never messed with the MAC address portion.

Wait, 150Mbps ? This router can't handle more than 20Mbps.
You should buy a gigabit router, something like Asus RT-n66.

This. Also, do you have QOS enabled? BW Limiter will not work simultaneously with QOS in Tomato.

This 100x.

The 54g line had very limited memory and as a result would fall to their knees when a large amount of NAT connections were made as it overloaded the available memory. The entire line was well known to fail when doing things like torrenting even if it was for legit usages like WoW patches.

If the person doing the torrenting is not the name on the internet account, I'd cut them off entirely. If it's your name, you should be a little worried.

I would take an older PC and run either pfsense or clearos, just use the current router as an access point. Then you can tune their usage down easily. I chose ClearOS based on hardware compatibility with the equipment I had.

<br />
are you sure about that ?
because I have similar problem, I am trying to limit ip range but it works only in download only if I have the same values in download/ceill.
My adsl limit are 800/ceill1900 200/ceill450 because the line is 2048/512
And the total limit is 1950/470

Hmm.. The WRT54GS was a piece of S***t even at the time that it was release.

You have 150Mbs connection and you are using a device thast was release at the time that most connections were bellow 10mbs.

So it might be a Good time to get a Current device that might be able to handle and mange 10 devices load.
