can't say I blame him.....

all politics aside, it was a no-win job

if he stops a terror attack nobody knows because it did not happen, and if one does happen - he is a failure

not to mention trying to get FBI and CIA talking

And, remember the talk from a few months ago that he was tired of making such a small salary? He was set to move into the private sector and make a boatload.

Maybe he resigned to avoid being part of the BS that caused something like this to occur:

Construction Journals From 1943 Are Seized

Agents from the federal Bureau of Reclamation seized a pair of 61-year-old journals from a Redding thrift store earlier this month, concerned that the books were a terrorism risk.

The 1943 construction diaries contained information about the building of the Shasta and Keswick dams, said Jon Austin, a volunteer at the Second Time Around Thrift Store.

Reclamation spokesman Jeff McCracken said that after spotting the items on EBay, department officials decided to keep the documents out of public circulation.

good.

other than helping Bush get votes in PA, I never quite knew what Tom Ridge's qualifications were to manage Homeland Security.

Ridge Says He Hasn't Submitted Resignation Letter, But Speculation Persists

In a number of articles focusing on Colin Powell's resignation, it is speculated that Tom Ridge will also likely resign soon. The AP (11/16, Raum) reports, "Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, attending a meeting in Hawaii, declined to say whether he, too, would resign -- but told reporters he has not submitted a letter of resignation. 'And when those decisions are made, I'd prefer to share it with the president first,' Ridge said."
In an article on Powell, the Washington Post (11/16, A1, Allen) notes "the likely departure of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge for a lucrative post in private industry."
The Los Angeles Times (11/16, Chen) includes Ridge in a list of "other Cabinet secretaries who may resign soon, according to Washington insiders."
Knight Ridder (11/16, Hutcheson) reports, "Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson top the list of other officials considered likely to step down."
Bloomberg (11/16 ) reports that Shirley Anne Warshaw, a political scientist at Gettysburg College, "said she expects Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge also to resign. Department spokeswoman Katy Mynster said Nov. 3 that Ridge was focusing on doing his job and that 'any discussion about his future will be held with the president at the appropriate time.'"
In his "Lowdown" column in the New York Daily News (11/16) Lloyd Grove writes that Ridge "has been making noises about leaving D.C."
