Tom Delay sentence may come later this afternoon.

Lemon law

Even though the Arizona shooting somewhat over shadows all regular new, other events proceed at their regular pace. And the Tom Delay sentencing hearing expected to last two days or so ended in less than a day. The judge has stated the final sentence may be issued by late Today.

While I certainly do not think Delay should get a life sentence, I do believe that giving Tom Delay only probation would make a mockery of our election laws. But the long delay between discovering the crime and the final sentencing has already made a mockery out of our entire criminal judicial system. With one set of laws seeming applying to the poor and disadvantaged
and other set for white collar criminals. Its some what easy to assert that just a few white collar criminal do more damage to our country then the entire larger set of mere criminals.

This dude was a pos. A remnant of bush era corruption. I am hoping for decades in prison for this tool.

Should get the same as Congressman Charles Rangel gets.

Misuse of funds for political gain.

can't believe they put this crook on dancing with the stars... just another indication of the crap on TV

That's asinine. It's like saying a shoplifter and Madoff are the same.

Rangel violated federal tax laws while he was chairmen of the House committee that writes the tax code. To compare that to shoplifting is asinine. Your blind partisanship is really showing.

Rangel's actions were worse because he benefited from them personally.

Delay did not get any personal gain for his scheme to get around campaign finance laws.

But DeLay is a Republican ..... <inherently evil by any progressives viewpoint>
Rangel is a political vendetta by the Republicans.

How is the above for anticipation/deflection😕

Delay does get jail time, 5 years. And another 10 years on another charge reduced to probation.

But wait, for now Delay must serve 5 minutes or so in the slammer while being processed into prison, and thereafter gets freed on $10,000 bail.

Pending an appeal that could take years and years. Dare we hope, Tom will die an innocent man by dying of natural causes while his sentence is on appeal.

It makes me so proud to be an American because we have the finest judicial system money can buy.

I'm surprised you haven't found a way to blame the Jews yet. 🙄

Not to be an apologist for Rangel, but all Rangel did is violate congressional ethics rules, and as far as I know, no criminal charges are pending.

And INMO, the worst Rangel violation was taking a wrong IRS tax law interpretation on taxes owed on some of his personal properties. No fraud there, but Rangel may have to pay back taxes and penalties now that the IRS has stated they have the right interpretation. My wife is a tax professional, take my word for it, it happens every day, some IRS computer goes click, often over a year after the original return is filed, and its IRS audit time. Some of the times the IRS is right and sometimes they are wrong. But no jail time ever results unless there is our right fraud not being alleged in the Ranglel matter.

So in terms of jail time for Rangel, some of you righty tighties might be advised not to hold your breath until the FIRST CRIMINAL CHARGES ARE FILED.

Rangel? I thought this thread was about DeLay? Oh yeah, the 'ol divert manuever again. lol

DeLay was just the tip of the iceberg. Much like casting a net over a school of fish and snagging the few unfortunate ones. Too bad, so sad...for DeLay, even more so because the bigger fish in the net got clean away.

*edit - not referring to you Lemon Law.

Just the kind of statement I would expect from a religious bigot like Dali71, if you have read my posts on the State of Israel and Palestinians, you will find I blame the Israeli government and not the Jews.

And in fact one of the greatest human beings I ever met was a card carrying Jewish Holocaust survivor, and if he compared the behavior of the State of Israel to the growing Nazi movement in Germany he knew as young man, do you dare call it antisemitism?

There is very big Jewish minority in Israel itself that does not like the behavior of the State of Israel either, so riddle me this Dali71, how can we call it an antisemitic issue? Especially when the Palestinian people happen to be a Semitic race also.

But stupid me, I thought this thread was supposed to be about Tom Delay. Did anyone bother to ask and then blame the religion that Tom Delay claims to practice.

Knowling filing false IRS tax forms for 14 years. Avg citizen can not get away with such
Knowling committing fraud regarding rent control in NYC. Avg citizen can not get away with such

Being a politco, the IRS is not going to file criminal charges
Being a politco, NYC is not going to do anything - easier to screw the citizens.

Ranglel was in charge of the tax laws - betrayed public trust royally.
Congress did nto even have the guts to do anything but a slap on the wrist - still is representing the people who he was willing to screw over.
