As long as the law is the law, the Muslim lady can either defend her religious beliefs and face the consequences, or compromise her religious beliefs. If she is living in this country, she has to do one or the other, fight and change the law, or get out of the country. It's the same for any religion, organization, or individual. No one will agree with every law in this country all the time.

As for the Hall's girl, that school regulation should apply to prescribed drugs and OTC medication, not throat lozenges that are practically candy.

Dear Muslims,

When you are in our country, you follow our rules and laws. They trump yours. Thanks, we don't want to turn into France or England and will not allow you to force shiriah law into our courts.

You forgot about Greece. We don't allow retards to torch, loot and pillage. In America, we will use deadly force and kill your ass if you act like a fool.

If orthodox Jews can wear their yarmulke in court why can't a Muslim woman wear her scarf?

This.

The courts say there is "no headgear" allowed. That is not being discriminatory. It is saying "nobody is allowed to have headgear" (or however it is worded). That applies equally to Christians as it does Hindu beliefs, Muslim beliefs, and any other belief system.

The drugs/weapon shit in school is getting out of hand. Cough drops are not drugs you can get high off without some serious doseage, and/or concentrating them. They are legal for any person to buy from the day you are born, until the day you die. IMO if it is OTC, there should be a limit on how much you can have (i.e. a reasonable amount) on you if you want to limit drugs. There are much bigger issues then a girl selling fucking Hall's at school that the schools should worry about first.

If all laws were followed black and white, on this forum you'd be banned 12 times over. But we let some stuff slide.

Just because you do have the power to enforce something doesn't mean you have to or even should. The speed limit on the interstate is 65 in my state. By many people's black and white interpretition of rules, every single person doing 66 should be pulled over and ticketed.

We don't live in a black and white world.

Now read this thread on the girl bringing Hall's Defense drops to school:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=38&threadid=2258647

Now answer poll.

Did you even bother to fully read the second story? There was NO legal action whatsoever taken against the little girl.

The girl's father, Andy Rivenbark, said he didn't get a note or call from school administrators about the incident.

[...]

Khalin has not been punished yet.
She said her teacher and her principal would meet again Wednesday morning to discuss things further.

The fat fuck of a father simply went straight to the press after ONLY hearing his precious little daughter's side of the story. And she seems like quite the little BULLSHIT ARTIST in making:

Khalin said two of her friends at school asked her for cough drops and she gave them out, but the friends, she said, insisted on giving her a dollar in exchange for the drops.

"She felt guilty taking the cough drop or whatever, so she gave me a dollar. I didn't want to accept it, but she had me take it," Khalin said.

Latest comment on the site about the "story":

I expect that news 4 jax will follow up on this story - since the girl and her father were set to meet with the school on Wed. Shame on you for airing this one-sided story without getting the facts. My child is in this class - it did not "go down" the way you presented the story - and now both the teacher and the students involved are in the limelight that was brought about by this Father. For the record - this person is a wonderful, caring teacher and I strongly resent the opinions posted of people that do not even know anything about this person.

Way to jump on the ZOMG bandwagon!

Edit: This informed comment about sums it up:

OK I've read your comments and you all missed the point. If you have a Clay County Parent Handbook and signed that you read it at the beginning of the school year, you would KNOW that the cough drops needed to be in its original box, a parental note (for being OTC), and taken to the clinic. The teacher did not accuse the girl of selling drugs... AND did NOT write her up (which she could have). She did communicate with a family member what the proper procedure was for bring the OTC to school. You people are so quick to jump to conclusions when CLEARLY the school has not been contacted for this story. If all the parent wanted was answers... he should have started with the teacher or the principal. So, should the student be put in another class? Or should they just leave her in the same class where God knows her parents will have issues for the rest of the year. What about the TEACHER -- this person is being drug through the mud-- AND YOU ALL WONDER WHY NO ONE WANTS TO TEACH IN PUBLIC SCHOOL???? I sure wouldn't.
Merry Christmas... yeah right.

I love these as long as the law is the law folks. So if they decide that you can't own a gun, speak freely or own property you are cool with those laws too?

My religion says I have to be naked in court rooms. Let me in!

Seriously though, it seems impossible to accommodate all religions. I'm a tolerant guy, but I really don't have a good solution to this problem.

Are you for real? that is a horrible comparison. Obscuration of the face it completely different between the two. Are you really asking that? They better outlaw wigs and hairpieces too huh.

Its zero tolerance, in both cases. But schools are marketing zero tolerance, so the enforcement of their rules is even more crucial. Cough drops are classified as otc medication, are they not?

What if the girl's cough drops did have menthol in them? Does it make any more difference?

Competent discretion is the answer.

Did you even bother to fully read the thread? My argument has nothing to do with the stories, but people's reactions to them.

At who's discretion? Not everybody agrees.

It's not a law, it's a rule... and it says no headwear... it doesn't mentinon anything about covering the face... so by your logic, is it now ok for me to wear a backwards cap because it's not covering my face?
