Going to Japan next spring, and there are lot of choices to sift through for hotels. Anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Tokyo?
Nah, I don't want to be a FedEx hating hermit.A strange game.
The only winning move is not to play.
Stay home.
Yeah, that's what we've been trying so far. Just wanted to see if anyone had anything specific from good prior experiences. There are so many options that the only way I've found to do it is to narrow down the area you want first then decide out of the remaining choices.
I'd probably favor Shinjuku or Shibuya on another trip.
Ended up finding a place in Shibuya (The Granbell). Came recommended on a few places and seemed to fit the bill of mid-ranged hotel at a good price and location. There are so many options that the only way I've found to do it is to narrow down the area you want first then decide out of the remaining choices.

Thanks for sharing! We'll be there in July - mostly as an extended connection between Singapore and Hawaii and its one of the few places left we haven't nailed down a hotelEnded up finding a place in Shibuya (The Granbell). To give you an idea, for a 4-night stay, it was ~$890 for a double-bed (150 cm/59 inches wide). This hotel was came up on a few travel sites I was perusing for places to stay/things to do, and it's almost on top of the Shibuya station, making it really convenient. The prices in Shibuya are a bit inflated, but it's apparently one of the spots to go with nightlife and whatnot. It really hit the spot for us in terms of location, price, and apparent quality. Thanks for sharing! Yeah... that really narrows it down. The hotel surrounded by the best ramen and sushi places
There's definitely a few awesome little circles that have the best overlap of both. Gotta get on those travel and food subreddits and figure it out boi!Yeah... that really narrows it down.
Thanks. Definitely been looking at the reddit stuff, and we'll keep some of the other stuff in our pocket as we get closer. We mainly have just been trying to nail down the larger itinerary after I booked some award flights a few months ago. We had already secured our other accomodations: a nice ryokan in Hakone, and a Hyatt-branded hotel in Kyoto (it was pretty cheap and got 2 nights free with some points).Went over the summer for 18 days. I used booking.com for all our hotels (agoda is also very good to use). We just decided on an area then searched on the website for 8+ rating hotels that had the bed configuration we liked that was close to a train station. One point of caution, the hotel rooms can be VERY small (especially the budget ones), so make sure you check on the room sizes. Always book in local currency and use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.
Use tabelog.com for restaurant reviews. Don't be afraid to just wander into a random restaurant if it looks good. Avoid all the instagram famous places. Don't turn your nose up at going to McDonald's, their teriyaki chicken sandwich is the bomb.
I am not into nightlife, so I couldn't tell you anything for that.
