toilet install question

Looking at a new toilet and i see there are two types a 10" rough in and a 12" rough in. what do i measure so i know which one to get?

IIRC, that is the distance from the wall to the mounting bolts.

correct. The standard is 12 inches, and I can almost guarantee you your is 12 inches from the wall.

I just did this back in January replacing 2 old toilets. It was a mess, but I managed to get it done.

I remember years ago my dad and I were attempting to hang a pretty solid piece of cabinetry above a toilet, we had everything in there nice and secure and everything seemed okay. We were both standing there staring at it when it just fell from the wall and shattered the toilet below it. Water and shards everywhere is fun to play in.

Toilet seat doesn't usually come with the toilet. Also some toilets are two piece (tank/bowl) and priced separately.

I hope they have safety features in maternity because you COULD lose a baby to those toilets.

No doubt eh. I've always thought it would be cool to have that style of toilet. The ones that sound like raging torrent of water when you flush them.

Screw the water saving shit. The time savings alone would be worth it. You could basically throw out your plunger.

I think you need an industrial strength water supply for that shit D). I know at my apartment, a toilet like that would probably be WEAKER than a regular one, water pressure is horrible here.

It is very informative, but I have a philosophical problem trusting the opinion of a guy who sells the very equipment he's recommending, considering that other plumbers on the site report effective results from other brands as well.

There are various MaP (maximum crap per flush) charts out there to compare toilet performance -- just be sure to check the dates as manufacturers do change toilet designs while keeping the same names.

As for installing a toilet, I paid a plumber when we had our 1/2 bath toilet replaced because of a broken flange. All told, it was only $160 for him to do the work, which included cutting away the old flange and installing a new one. Considering that he was able to drop the toilet in place and secure it in about 5 minutes, including caulking, I consider the money well spent!

Those actually probably involve a pressurized system and would not be bothered by low water pressure. It creates high pressure in the tank.

And I wouldn't suggest one of those Toto toilets mentioned earlier. I would recommend a Gerber Viper... The price to performance cannot be matched.

That is what im getting. i was going to go to Lowes and the the Kohler but not after reading a lot of bad consumer reviews on it.

I hate our toilets, ive had to live with them for 11 years and im sick of feeling like im taking a shit sitting on a 5gallon bucket. AND i swear they both clog with 1 sheet of TP. I just go my tax refund and these two are GONE!

The measurement from the back wall to the center of the 3" drain pipe is the rough in distant, standard is 12" roughin, and 10" roughin toilet is to accommodate rough in error or renovation (such as additional tiles backing).

The first 5-6 years of low flow toilet regulation were the problem. Newer toilets copied the Toro superior trap design for 1.6 gallon, therefore they are now all work just about as well as the old 5 gallon toilets.

I have a couple of kohler comfort height cimmarons, they work well. The newer model does not have a traditional flapper, it has this lifted tube system that never leaks and flushes the crap out of it, pardon the pun.
