Ok, as was mentioned on digg, the kid didn't try to hire a hitman because he wasn't allowed to use his playstation, he did it because he was kicked out of the house
FTA
But Cory dropped out of school and then, after stealing $45 (£22) from his sister?s piggy bank, had a fight with his mother, which led to him being kicked out of home. He has since told officials that he was upset about being thrown out of the house and that he felt pressured to talk to the man in the hotel.

Still, major WTF, how could a kid get so messed up that he'd try and hire a hitman.

Ahh, the terrible teens, I remember that stage of my life. What a rite of passage, trying to have your parents whacked.

I dont get this:

his mother was organising a sting operation involving a police officer posing as a contract killer.

Yet she is a:

financial manager at Patuxent River naval station

So she is a financial manager, but organizes sting operations?

Ya know....I wonder if the kid isn't just a plain old sociopath. That's pretty fucking hardcore, to hire a hitman.

I wanna know how they got the idea of stinging him for the hitman operation in the first place. Did mom find some threatening note? Did a family friend overhear him and his evil plotting?

Mrs Troiano remembers the night on June 2 when she discovered that the vague threats her son had made were serious.

Yeah, that's because on the night of June 2nd they arrested her son for attempted murder, hence "she discovered that the vague threats her son had made were serious".

I want to know what these vague threats were, and how they were found out.

these little suburban kids with their emo "problems" are really starting to piss me off. I mandate that all American kids when they turn 12, be shipped over to Chechnya to live for a year. then they'll think differently about their "problems."

It's interesting that noone is applauding the parents for all of the efforts they have gone through and continue to go through to straighten this kid out. This kid is a whack job and it sounds as if the parents have tried numerous avenues to get through to him. And now, instead of playing the "please don't punish him, he'll change" game like the majority of parents do, they are asking the judge to lay the hammer on him. Good for them.

Oh I do applaud them. It's one reason I wonder if the kid isn't a sociopath because even with all the help he still does something like that. I would seriously be interviewing the step-sisters to see if he abused them (assuming they're younger and/or smaller) and looking into the possibility of animal abuse as well.

You mean in reference to the "After Being Grounded From PlayStation, Television" part? Yeah they could have just left that part out. They really had absolutely nothing to do with the story, aside from the opening paragraph which was trying to establish the supposed and false"normalcy" of this teenager's life. I would guess he was more bent on killing his folks for being kicked out of the house.
