The chimpanzee is the closest living relative to humans, sharing 98.5% of our DNA. It is also one of the only animals that is self aware (the others being elephants and dolphins). A chimpanzee can recognize itself in a mirror, where a monkey can not.

On an odd side note, chimps are 98.5% genetically identical to humans, but we can not reproduce with them. This argument is often used to shoot down those wild "aliens are trying to cross-breed with us" claims. We would have about as much success mating with an alien as we would with a house plant.

who tried to mate a chimp with a human to find that out?

who hasn't? wink wink

Unless we're talking about William Shatner representing the human race.

I'd like to quote "The Big Bang Theory" here:

How come in Star Trek everyone's private parts are the same? No alien lady ever told Captain Kirk, "Hey, get your thing out my nose."

Of course we couldn't mate with a Chimpanzee despite the 98.5% of shared DNA. God knew what he was doing when he created all of us.

Including the ticks that seek shelter on scrota. Gotta love the big guy.

Shaq?

no, shaq is A god, not The god

I'm more partial to picnic tables.

i really dislike chimpanzees. i watched a programme on telly once, which showed them in the wild. they're cannibals and all they do is fuck each other. even the little infants

orangutans on the other hand are cool

If you ever see my roommate's obnoxiously excessive body hair and love for bananas, you might doubt the above statement.

ah, but has he tried to reproduce? this may not be proven yet!
