It took Britain just 38 minutes to defeat Zanzibar in the Anglo-Zanzibar War of 1896. Britain even got payment from Zanzibar for the shells used during the brief bombardment.

The one in my head? I do content editing for our web site and see a lot of different facts during the day, so I'm posting them for fun. Is this annoying you or something?

I do...it's a Funk & Wagnall calendar. Today's fact was really lame though, so I went with this one :) Between the calendar, the web articles, and browsing, I'm surrounded by useless trivia!

No indication at all that the Zanzibar army had "spears". Britain pulled up, sunk the boat and destroyed the castle. Yes, the Zanzibar army was outgunned. But the ground troops never had a chance to make an impact. The shelling started and ended the war.

I bet you think we fought against people throwing rocks in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Chinese army is just a bunch of people that know Kung Fu too, huh?

Thanks for proving my point about another example of Europe's rape of Africa.
