Just found this on GotApes and surprised it wasn't already on anandtech.

Sprint® Samsung 6100 Web-enabled CellPhone for $33.22! This is an absolutely INCREDIBLE price for this phone. You don`t even have to sign up for a plan. So this is ideal for those of you already on Sprint service. It`s 3.8ounces and includes voice activated dialing, internet & data capabilities, an organizer, lithium ion batteries, etc.

If you spend $100 or over, you can get $20 off a $100+ (expires 1/31/01) by using code: VISAOD01

Description says the phone is a single band phone, won't this limit use as one travels the state? I had a single band phone and if I traveled across state had to pay roaming, had to exchange it for a dual band phone.

I ordered two of these last night and they are to be delivered (by OD) on Monday. Exceptional price on a highly rated phone (see reviews at Cnet).

I have 2 dual-band phones but have only used analog roam once in the last two years here in Texas with Sprint.

What area code did you guys use? I tried 95616 and 94587 (No. Cal) and no luck.

Single-band means that it only supports CMDA 1900 (PCS), so you should not have to pay roaming anywhere on the Sprint PCS network. However, it also means that you can't get a signal anywhere else, like on roaming networks.

This has been on Anandtech since last night. GotApes stole it
(in typical fashion, without attribution) from here...

Check out other threads...When this was first posted on Anandtech,
you could actually purchase these phones for delivery (rather
than backorder).

Kwad.

I just did a search of every AnandTech forum (title and body) using 'Samsung' and '6100.' That returned zero results so I just searched on Samsung. No results for the phone.

I would be interested in the link the the thread if already posted.

Just my 2 cents, but the search features on this bbs blows bigtime.

If you get a new Sprint phone to replace an existing one, the fine folks at a SprintPCS store will happily look at the new one, type a few things on their computer, and send you on your way. </sarcasm>
When you get your next bill, there is a nice little charge for 30 dollars. I really like how Sprint encourages/rewards its customers to upgrade their phones. :)

serzone,

"I would be interested in the link the the thread if already posted."

Actually, I think I broke the story in the Original Threadbut it was the "Deals on Cellphones at officedepot.com (other than timeport) thread that caused me to look so Kudos to scythic

I have never heard of GotApes.

I picked up a few Sprint Samsung 6100's for $33.22 from the Website. Reg 149.99 so pretty hot deal.

Mfgr number: SCH6100GHS
Item number: 399181

Not that this is really important unless I get a free cookie or something .. or I guess I would get a half a cookie. :)

P.S. Got 3 of them today. One had water damage so it is going back.

It's out of stock nationwide.

Is anyone selling this for a reasonable price?

Single band stinks. It means it can't switch to analog if digital isn't available. Digital is only available in major cities....leave the city and you're out of luck.
