seems like there is no true talent out there and if there is, it is rare and not played on mainstream radio that much. i can listen to all sorts of music, but i treasure classic rock the most. for example, led zeppelin was one of the best bands ever and a lot of the bands today don't even compare. i'm not saying today's music is all bad, but there isn't that much creativity being displayed. i guess it's all relative but i could be wrong in my humble opinion. i just don't like all the commercialism associated with today's music.

You've got 2 choices: pop music (crap) or songs made 10+ years ago. Anything good made recently just gets shadowed by the crap which is made nowadays that it barely gets recognized.

No, it's not played on mainstream radio, but there is some out there. You do actually have to go look for good music now.

And Seph'll probably get mad if I don't pimp Incubus.

Some of today's music is alright but most is just throwaway sound. Few popular bands seem to take risks anymore, but of course there are always exceptions. Age is also a factor: just like with movies, after you've racked up enough kills the "been there, done that" syndrome kicks in.

The best place to find good music nowadays is usually on community radio stations. They also play the widest varieties.

This is a perennial complaint. There are more people today than yesterday. By rights, there are more musical genuses alive than ever before.

i agree, and am a big zep fan. i started a thread about a week ago that went over the state of rock today. there are a few bands out there carrying the flame for "real" rock and roll, but in my opinion they can't compare.

today's music is very commercial, and that bugs me most. everyone's so afraid to lay their sack out there and risk having it squashed when no one buys. for example, take sugar ray. most of you guys know them as those "i just wanna fly" bubblegum summer hit guys from a couple of years back that release a similar single every year or so. well, these guys have been around for a long time before 1998 or whenever it was they released that song. if you listen to their new albums, they have one "pop" song, and all the rest is their preferred kind of sound - hard, fast, aggressive. they sold out. the members of the band were sick of not making any money, so on each album, the record one song that they know will be a single and make some cash. that's crap.

give me zeppelin, give me the stones, give me the clash, give me the who, just give me some real rock and roll that doesn't disappoint. all those bands are british...and the latest band to record an album i've been proud to buy - radiohead. i ike rage against the machine, ben harper, cake, beck, whatever, but i guess i like classic rock better.

I agree that there are a lot of sucky bands out there, but there is more good stuff being produces than ever before. Try Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College for starters. Try Guster, Wilco, or Travis. If you like the heavier stuff, try Incubus or Drain Sth. If you like straight up rock, try Buckcherry or the Marvelous 3. Just look (err...listen) around, and you're bound to find something that appeals to you. Personally, I'm really into Dido right now. And take my word for it, you can't go wrong with ReadySexGo by the Marvelous 3.
