...that the Republican party commemorates has convulsive, orgasmic fits over a devastating attack that occurred on their watch. How should we kick things off? How about a man that avoided the Vietnam war because of his connections playing "Fortunate Son" to his braying supporters?

Come on, this shit is just so fucking funny at this point. Nothing matters anymore, nothing has any meaning at all.

I'd like to know what the hell has happened to these American citizens? We're that always this way? Is this something new? Are they the people now running the country, now electing the officials, now setting the rules, and.... now our future?

the lyrics minus the chorus for those who don't know them...

Some folks are born, made to wave the flag
Ooh, their red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, y'all
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yeah

Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!", Y'all

I'd like to know what the hell has happened to these American citizens? We're that always this way? Is this something new?

We humans happen to have some distinct advantages over the rest of the animal kingdom. But that's not saying much.
  • First mistake, overestimating our own intelligence. Look to our history of violence. We are actually rather stupid.
  • Second mistake, not understanding how modern communications have ripped the bandaid of civil society off and exposed our darkest impulses.
It starts with Cable News cria 1980s. The world of national politics begins to creep into more households across the nation. Local politics is slowly eroded into national politics. CNN has a monopoly on it at that point, but then for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Eventually Fox News is born to create the "other" side. Not just representing the opposition, but molding and shaping them.

Modern communication has taken America's two party system and internalized it for nearly all Americans. Individuals with their morals and their nuances are given a back seat to the "fight" against the other side. Compromise becomes treason, doing anything but fighting the enemy is deemed a failure to be corrected. Thus we emerged from the 1990s into the 2000s. Some old farts twenty years ago would have still remembered a previous era of American leadership, before we descended into such civil strife.

Enter the reality destroyer. As the Internet rapidly became more mainstream and popularized by social media, 24/7 cable news... who at least had a veil of authority, respect, and fact checking... is replaced wholesale by conspiracy nuts like Alex Jones who are given a platform to reach more people more rapidly than anything humanity has ever before witnessed. Cable News, already descending purely into Entertainment Opinion, follows men like Jones. The radicals become empowered by an echoing chattering class. Facts no longer apply, someone - somewhere - has written something to support your opinion... given to you by your party. Those are the new "facts". Reality in the minds of humans, is destroyed.

It gets worse. Enter 2008 and the Iphone. The trifecta is complete. From party unification to festering extremism to constant rage. All three elements are combined, packaged and delivered straight to your brain 24/7... ding... ding... ding... ding... all day, every day. Those beeps, rings and other tones are taking this destructive information and feeding it straight to your brain. But you do not care - it feeds your ego to stand for your side, armed with your facts, and hit the other side. How dare they deny your truth?! How dare they continue to exist!?

Remember - the brain treats contrary information as a direct threat. It shuts down when confronted.

But our entire society has strapped confrontation to our brains non-stop. Every time your cellphone beeps, you can find news of your enemy - if not direct words from them. There is no cooldown period, no rest or relaxation to be found. You are delivering stress unto yourself 24/7. But hey... the Ego can still find a circle jerk to make itself feel better... as the rest of your cognitive system burns down around it. Eventually we reach a point of distress where nothing matters anymore. Trump could rape your loved ones, but at least a Democrat didn't do it. Or vise versa.

Modern communication has made us all (mostly) brain dead and unable to seek reason from madness. Thus we are presently FAR more primitive in our thoughts and our deeds than our founders. And we are on the verge of cannibalizing ourselves for no other reason than we can. For we are in no condition to think ourselves out of a paper bag in our present inebriated state.

Through free speech, we have destroyed ourselves.

out of all the songs that could have been played this has got to be the most ironic.

edit for this thread:
must be a case of reading the title and not the lyrics because trump is everything that is derided in that song

Trump has shown he’s a captured vet hater
Yet his ratings with supporters don’t crater
What will it take
Till they see their mistake
Face it, trump’s just a coward and traitor.

A lot of people are saying
That something’s gone wrong in his brain
Be it possible stroke
Or addiction to coke
Either way, US people are paying

I don’t doubt for a second that Loser Donald picked the song himself, because he lacks the patience or curiosity to actually listen to the lyrics and thinks to himself - “I’m a fortunate son! Everyone’s going to be so amazed by how tremendously great I am!”

You never seen fresh recruits or cadets grove out to

You could try and tell them that the song probably dont mean what you think it does... all they hear is the chorus.

Thats what is going on here...

NIH director on CNN yesterday. If aliens came to earth right now and saw only half of the population wearing masks, they'd question our intelligence

He ended that rally with YMCA by the Village People, don't really understand that one either. Normally they end with "You can't always get want you want" by the Stones. Hard to believe, but maybe his campaign finally is complying with the multiple cease and desist orders about playing that song? The Stones along with the BMI wound up threatening to sue back in July.

I'm thinking some more appropriate songs for him to use. “Fuck the World” by the Insane Clown Posse comes to mind. “Pumped Up Kicks” and “Blurred Lines” would be a good choices as well.

The absolute rage that came with having a black president. To make it worse, he was a very good, non-corrupt, president.

lol making fun of his dumb fans right to their faces and they don’t even hear it.

If Sympathy for the Devil Played every time he stepped on stage they still wouldn't get it. By the time Trump came around their minds were already mush from decades of right wing mind rot.

"Ticket to Heaven" by Dire Straits would be appropriate ....

now there’s nothing left for luxuries
nothing left to pay my heating bill
but the good lord will provide
I know he will
so send what you can
to the man with the diamond ring
they’re tuning in across the land
to hear him sing

That floating fatman keeps playing this, completely ignorant of the message, showing no respect for the artist.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-new...ump-campaign-use-his-songs-rally-not-n1232904

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

The contagion of poisoned knowledge is not just an American trait, it is human. As the world poorly responds to the threat posed by misinformation, division, and extremism. Some nations will weather the storm better than others, but all will suffer for it as they watch others radicalize and or fall apart.

To be fair, it's pretty common that GOPers embarrass themselves this way, all the time. Remember when Reagan adopted the extremely US-critical "Born in the USA" for his campaign? :D

Bush did something similar, too, but I forget what it was. Trump's campaign basically shoves their heads up their own tone-def assholes every week, though.

It's a problem on the political right, here and abroad.

One-third of republicans believe it's "mostly true." 56% believe it's mostly true or partially true.
