You're on the right path. Only youself can find out what to believe in and what not. If anybody tries to tell you they know the "truth" they are simply lying. Believing should not be mixed up with knowing. BTW I find the hippocracy (?) of catholics quite amusing. Ireland is probably the most catholic country here in Europe with strict laws about abortions, contraceptives and such, yet they have the lowest age of sexual debute in all of Europe 🙂

Hey, Czar;

Does all this ensuing yadda-yadda now look different to you from your vantage point on the 'dark side'? 🙂

You are all so pathetic. Leave it alone. Get a life and stop arguing if the sky is this shade of blue or that. It is all subjective opinion, when looked at from the opposite side.

Christ died for sins past, sins present, and sins future. If you were to be truly saved and die the next day, the Bible says you'd go to heaven.

One doens't need to be forgiven everyday. They are already forgiven for everything. We need to realize that things we do that aren't of God will just hurt us.

Say you're a Christian and God tells you to go give a woman who you don't know $20, tell her that Jesus loves her and cares for her. You, being stupid, give her $15 cuz you need money for gas, just ruined something that God had for both you and her. You've disobeyed Him and shown him that He can't trust you with simple things yet. What if that lady was just thinking to herself "if I only had $20, I could feed my kids tonight and make it to payday tomorrow." Well, there's your $15 which is good. But it's still not what God asked you to do.

Now let's say that you actually do give her the $20. She's thinking "wow... something strange just happened here."

Czar,

Congrats on your new beliefs. Hope they make you happier then you were before.

<< I did the Catholic school girl thing >>

So did I, but I think we mean different things. 🙂 She did the Catholic school boy thing.

Cobalt...yes, I know. I was comparing Catholic belief to the topic in this thread about having to go to church every Sunday. You don't have to go to church every sunday, and you don't have to be forgiven every day...

I'm agnostic (afterall who knows what goes on 'up there', its all conjecture, afterall), but I'm thinking of becomeing a pagan. All that worshipping mothernature, druids at Stonehenge, fertility rituals & naked virgins dancing arround the may pole, sounds like a lot of fun, plus I like the Idea of knocking down a beer for Thor the god of lightning.

Go Pagan.

DABANSHEE

Now you're talkin'.... Ah, the Mythologies! Now that's a subject I can sink my teeth into!

Now, if I can just find a way to turn my knowlege into a way to make money...

Raspewtin

You naughty monk, you... Maybe I did do the Catholic school girl thing, if we share the same meaning! 😉

Dabanshee
Now you're mixing the norse religion with druidism. Thor is a god in our old religion here in the nordic countries (excluding Finland)

Most athiests I've met were ignorant, irate morons who just wanted an excuse to skip Church on Sundays. I see it holds true for forums.anandtech.com as well 🙂

Bakwetu,

You're from Scandinavia. I love your mythology, culture, meatballs, and especially furniture (I could live in an IKEA store and be quite happy 🙂 ). I hope to visit someday.

Isla,

Wow, I'm impressed.

/me bowes before Isla.

unlike Catholics who believe you have to be forgiven every day or whatnot...I mean, what happens when you go get forgiven on Sunday, sin on Monday, and die on Tuesday? ;o)

Now, if we had to go to Confession that much, when would we have time to sin? 😉 Actually, Confession is supposed to be once a week, but for me its been 4 years.... I am a tad bit late. 🙂

My family background is Jewish, so skipping church on Sundays was never a problem. I hold two patents, and I have several article published in technical journals and a couple of published papers with the Audio Engineering Society. I am also delighted to have concluded that religion is a useless fantasy of the supernatral.

I wouldn't bother shoving it in your face, except that I know I'm not the only one on this forum with an education and a couple of benchmarks under their belt, so please, PISS UP A ROPE!

Btw, you spelled atheist wrong.
Anyways, no, we're not ignorant and are not looking for an excuse to sleep in on Sundays. We just don't believe in something you do. And I've never seen the point of going to church. Doesn't the bible say that God rested on the 7th day? So why should his/her followers have to get up early? 😉

Cybersax
We in the atheist community love you too 🙂

Raspewtin (=Rasputin?) you're oh' so welcome to our fine country 🙂

Bakwetu, I know that the 'Old religion' of the Celts (Gaul, Briton, Ireland, Cornwell, etc) is different to the 'Old Religion' of the Germanic Tribes & the Norse (Angles, Frisians, Vikings, Saxons, etc). But they both qualify as pagan. Plus its seems both traditions have been all blended together & mixed up over time.

Anyway, I'm off to the Greenman (a not uncommon name for pubs, comes from a Celtic fertility diety, represented by a head with vines growing out of the ears & eyes, etc) to drink to Thor.

So what you're trying to tell us is that you're athiest right?

<< Your beliefs contradict themselves. If you believe in God, how can you not believe something that He said? >>

The most debated about books of the Bible are the deuteranomical books, or the first five books of the Bible. In fact, they are sometimes called Apocrypha, which means "hidden", a shorthand for "these books are to be hidden from all but the wise," since they are often misinterpreted by those who do not have the knowledge or experience to find the true meaning of Scripture.

FFM, tell me, if we were to believe the Bible word-for-word, how would you explain the existence of two different stories of creation in the Bible? Or why there are two flood accounts, both with different details? Is God lying to us? Only one story can be true, both cannot have happened. Remember that those who had inspiration from God wrote the Word of God. These authors included both stories to reinforce the fact that the details of the stories are not important, but the message they convey. Therefore, it is perfectly fine to believe in evolution and God, as it is to believe in science and God.
