I visited Anandtech for a year and assumed Anand was in his mid twenties to mid thirties until he posted that he was going for his driver's license.

One of the reasons I did not want the drivers license early. It feels better to drive when you've matured a bit.

Well I'm sure the test was easier than the UK test is now.

You have to pass a theory test of 40 multiple choice questions with something like 35 or over correct, then do the hazzard perception video test (click mouse button when you see a dangerous situation), then the practical test with an examiner. Then you have half the points allowance for two years or you are bumped back to learner again The regular allowance is 12, a speeding ticket will be 3 points...so you could be back to Learner status with 2 speed camera shots!

Luckily I passed in 1990 and we just had the practicle test and some verbal questions at the end.

Have fun, but try to be safe. I was a dick when I passed and did some pretty silly stuff, but that's life.

um.. Actually we have a theortical test which is 65 questions. You need 52 to pass. We dont have any allowances. If they catch you for speeding during the 5 year "test period" they have the right to take your liense. We also have to pass a safety test where you drive in slippery conditions and manouver the car in a good manner to pass. And then you have the practical test aswell. So I guess its the same or a bit harder than the UK, i Live in sweden btw :)

Yeah Yanagi, I think as far as Europe is concerned it's SWE and UK that take the cake on the testing. It's much harder now from when I took it, but I know all about it as my Colombian GF has just recently done it. She had a US licence and it was just laughed at...you cannot transfer that to a UK licence!

you are in ireland - I'm probably safe over here in houston.

You never want to underestimate new drivers, though, so I'll keep my eyes open anyway.

Well you can transfer many licences to a UK one from countries that drive on the right, just not ones who's licence pops out with the pics in the photo machine. ;)

Nothing is ever fully hidden.

It's not like you couldn't just see how many posts he has made and then look at the date he joined and figure it out. :)
