Some one had left a six-pack of plastic Sprite bottles in our freezer over night. I found them this morning, and I immediately noticed one of them was still completely liquid! They were wrapped in plastic packaging, and so I knew it hadn't just been placed there.
I showed my roommate and he sort of smiled, then told me to open it. I assumed it would explode, or something. He told me it would freeze from the top down, right before my eyes. I opened it, and sure enough, the Sprite began to freeze, from the top down to the bottom. He offered no explanation as to why this occurs, but mentioned he has seen the same phenomenon in beer bottles left in a freezer.
So, why does this occur?
