Today I made the first step back into the world of renting

What's up with rental apps? Good grief. They wanted bank account numbers, credit card numbers, phone numbers of current mortgage company, monthly payments on student loans and car loans.

This thing asked more questions than applying for a home loan.

Anywho....I put down a security deposit on 1300 sq/ft 3BR apartment with garage in a gated community in Tempe, AZ. My "back yard" is a $150 a round championship golf course. Well, that and the sand volleyball court. I got it for $1000 a month.

Going to be a big change from owning my own home for the last 3 years in Iowa. 😕

Tempe, AZ is a very long way from West Virgina. I'm about 10 mintues from the ASU campus, 10 minutes from the Phoenix airport, and 15 minutes from downtown Phoenix.

Tempe is really nice but expensive. To bad you didn't get a job in Tucson. You may like it more and prices are lower.
The Phoenix area is way to big for my taste.

I'm moving from Tucson to Charlottesville VA in 4 weeks. I will miss it 🙁

Congrats on accepting that promotion and the move, vi_edit! 🙂

I got to Omaha NE yesterday. Going to see a realtor tomorrow. Looking at renting a house...or a detached condo.

WTF, I heard Charlottesville is about the top place in the country to live, based on weather, cost of living, crime and all that stuff. My wife's uncle lives there, and it's beautiful, IMO.

heh, I just moved into (matter of fact, it was today) a $250/month, 600sqft studio somewhere around Springfield, MO. 🙂

I am looking forward to my life in a bachelor pad 🙂

Well, yeah it's beautiful in the spring/summer but I will miss the AZ 'winters'. No more mountain biking in T-shirt on Christmas. 🙁
House prices are insane in Charlottesville.

With the 16,000 acre South Mountain Park literally across the street from me, I'm going to start getting into the mountain biking scene. Well, not really hardcore mountain biking, but something a bit more agressive than sidewalks and asphalt.

House prices can't be too unreasonable, or it wouldn't be #1 on that list. They must be priced fairly for the salaries being paid there, no?

Easily 50% more than Tucson. I keep the same salary. This is based on my own findings and comparisons when I visited there. Here is a linky to another site.

Quote from site:
The book says Charlottesville's high housing prices are the only "negative and directly reflect the quality of life and resistance to sprawl. ... Mr. Jefferson would be proud."

Enjoy it!! AZ has some great mountain biking trails.
😀

expensive? you must be crazy...i live in the D.C. metero area and something like that would easily cost 1700/month

"...can rental applications get any more intrusive?"

Christ, renters have more flippin' "rights", than the owner of the property! Some of these mofos can be 6 months behind, tearing the walls out, and have twenty relatives living with them, yet it still takes an act of congress to get them out. I'll side with the landlords here, when it comes to weeding out the riffraff before they get their feet in the door.
