I have another thread in software regarding audio crackling in Richard Burns Rally. Since I'm not sure I'll be able to get it working I think I'll buy a different racer.

I seen TOCA3 is down to just $20 at Walmart. I was about to buy it but I wanted a few opinions on it. I've played the demo. Seems pretty damn good. Good interface and the controls configured flawlessly for my 360 controller and my wheel (a rarity in the land of PC racers.. they usually require some fussing with).

I played a bit of TOCA2 on the Xbox and it was pretty good as well, but with Forza on the Xbox I didnt play much TOCA2. TOCA3 on PC seems fairly close to Forza. The sound, control, maps, etc are all quite good.

I haven't played much of the other race modes outside of basic GT free races. Is the career mode in TOCA3 comparable to GT3 or Forza as far as customization and upgrading your car? Is there a good selection of licensed cars like in GT4/Forza? Finally, are the other weird race modes like trucks, lawnmower, open wheel, etc well-done? I'd mainly play regular race cars but it's ncie to have the option to mess around with much different autos.

Also, how is the multiplayer? Good enough netcode and adequate amount of people playing online?

Finally my last question regards Starforce. I really hate needing a DVD disc in the drive to play it every time, plus it is easy to get it all scratched up that way. Not a single other game I own needs the CD. Most don't check for it (Joint Ops, UT2k4, HL2) or others I can easily get a nocd since they don't use POS Starforce.

If I legally own TOCA3, is there ANY way I can avoid needing the DVD in the drive to play? I DON'T want to have to unplug my optical drives in order to use an image. I was hoping there was another method.

I just picked it up anyway. I'll install it tomorrow.

For me, disabling DVD drives doesn't work for the newest SF games (v3.7+ I think) like TOCA3 has. I read that people with NF4 boards could simply disable optical drives but its not the case. People were spectulating that using a SATA RAID prevented the disable trick from working, but I have SATA and RAID all turned off since I only have PATA drives. SF nightmare only works on older SF and disabling doesn't work for me.

Hopefully TOCA3 will be so good I won't need to be taking it in and out of the drive. :)
