One smoked, but didn't catch fire, as in flames. I guess I unplugged it in time. The other 2 didn't turn on. I think there was another one that I just threw out because it had grease accumulation.

Pre-food-allergies, I think I used it more than any other appliance. Toasted sandwiches, mmm. One of the best models out there is the $99 Panasonic NB-G110P:

I love my conventional toaster oven.

Its a Black and Decker model my GF bought me for my birthday back in 2007.
 
I use the toaster oven whenever possible. I can usually fully cook or heat up something in the time it takes for the oven to preheat.

One of my goto meals is to to cook a frozen chicken breast in the toaster oven. Get home, season chicken breast, put in toaster oven set to 375F for 40 minutes. By the time I'm ready to eat, it's done. Super easy. Not having to wait for the big gas oven to warm up saves tons of time.
 
We love our Delonghi toaster oven with convection oven $80 after coupon @ CostCo B&M a few years ago.
 
I brought the subject of a good toaster oven up to the the wife about a week ago and she over rode it I guess.

I'm not in the mood to argue with her these days.

I've done a ton of cooking over the years, some fairly advanced stuff (e.g. made a lot of sweet rolls according to recipes in professional cookbook). "Foodie?" I try not to be. I enjoy good food, but these days I'm very seldom willing to spend an hour on a meal in my kitchen. I tend (a lot) to cook for the week in some ways, make a pot of rice that goes in the fridge, a vegetable stir fry (wok) that goes in the fridge for inclusion in burritos later. I like good food but don't want to spend a lot of time preparing it. I have too many other things that I want/must do to get too into doing fancy things in the kitchen these days.
 
Love our toaster oven. The right size to toast a hero,3 slices of pizza, chicken nuggets, fries etc.... Mostly for things that we do not want to turn on the main oven for. It makes toast just fine. We still use the microwave to reheat leftovers at time when we are in a hurry otherwise most of our cooking is done on an outdoor grill or stovetop.

Jeez, guys, you're making me totally reconsider my decision to put the thing out on the curb. Hmm. 😕

Thing is, I just bought a used 301 CD carousel player to put in the kitchen and I figured to remove the toaster oven to make room for it. Now I'm going to have to rethink the whole affair and try to make room for both. Also, of course, try to figure out how to make friends with the toaster oven. Right now it shares space with bread machine, microwave, toaster, blender. I'll figure out something.

Question: Can you cook a potato in a toaster oven?

Yes, but why would you? They make cloth type of bags that you can toss into the microwave for 5 minutes. There isn't a single oven that can cook a potato in that time.

To quote the great Mitch Hedberg:

And yes, you are dumb for throwing out a toaster oven. Wouldn't live without em. You know how most things (like pizza) say "Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees"? Yeah, you ACTUALLY have to pre-heat. Not so with a toaster oven, they heat up damn quickly.
 
I couldn't live without mine. I have a piece of toast and jam almost every morning. In the winter there is nothing like opening that oven for your piece of toast and leaving the door open for a little bit of warmth.... (Hey - I don't have a fireplace in my apartment.... maybe when I buy a house 😀)

I have been thinking of getting a new one because mine is pretty old, but still does the job. I'm just waiting for Kaido to talk me into it like he has with half the gadgets currently sitting in my kitchen.
 
I had a Hamilton Beach Set and Forget convection toaster oven that worked well, but I gave it away to save some counter space. Probably shouldnt have done that, because now I'm back to eating bread and toasting/warming things in a standard sized oven.

my regular oven takes like 15 minutes just to heat up. I'm already 15 minutes of cooking with the toaster oven.

anything that would go in the oven goes in the toaster oven (unless it's too big or cooking for more than myself, which is rare).

I still use the toaster though, that seems faster than the toaster oven.

my toaster oven claims to be pre-heated when it's no where near it.

regular oven does the same, though.

I use my toaster oven more than my regular oven. Only thing I really use a normal oven for nowadays is if I'm cooking something that won't fit in the toaster oven.. which normally is 2-3 sheets of cookies or something.
 
You people need to post exact model names of what you're using more... I've been looking for over a year and still haven't found one I really like.
 
have a convection microwave, love it. can put a medium pizza or corn dogs in there and they taste like they were cooked in a regular over/fryer.

Well uhhh... they do for me? I've never had a problem with em. Don't taste any different either. I usually hate "microwave" flavor (Pizza), but toss it in these bags and it comes out just like the oven for me at least.

Maybe someone else can chime in to confirm...
 
Apparently I was the only one who put a lot of thought into the stove I bought? It's dual fuel (gas for the stovetop, electric for the ovens. Two ovens: top oven is a narrower over, about the size of most broilers, but with 40 amps or whatever it's rated for, it heats up damn fast, can be used as a broiler or toaster, heats up as fast as a toaster oven, yet has more space, so I can bake a couple dozen cookies in it at once, if I were so inclined. It's a lot more useful at holiday time - I can roast a turkey on convection roast in the bottom oven, while baking fresh pies in the top oven. Toaster oven... pshh.


"Baked" potatoes done in a microwave are actually "steamed potatoes." Microwaved potatoes are to baked potatoes as an applesauce sandwich is to an apple pie.
