To XP-120 or not?

Wow...that thing is a beast...hopefully a model that competes against my Thermalright SP-97 will be released...

I'd definitely buy it...

It's definitely one of the best. The biggest advantage being it can be used for very quiet computing. Make sure your motherboard is compatible.

Yep, I've got a P4P800 Deluxe, and according to another forum I read, my mobo is compatible. Apparantly the P4C800s need some capacitors to be bent, but not the P4P800s.

Bend, snap, twist, whatever it takes! 😀

Yeah, this will fit on my MB too (P4P800) but you have to look at the case you are installing it on.
If you center a cd on the CPU, does the cd touch any part of the case?
People like me who have the power supply in the middle of the case are SOL (Sh*t Outta Luck) since the XP-120 will hit the bottom of the power supply by a good distance.
Off to find a SP-94 🙂

I bought the coolermaster stacker about 5 days ago - should be no probs for me 😀.

I hear ya bro. The xp120 cannot dream of fitting into my superlanboy.

Does anybody know of any place that has the XP-120 in stock?

My order at frozencpu apparently didn't go through, and then they sold out before I got it straightened out. And then by that time SVC had also sold out. I'm not in a huge rush to get one since I'm waiting on getting a 6800 Ultra as well, but I'd like to get my cpu overclocking out of the way before I deal with that.

Yeah, the thing is a total monster. I've heard that it's not all that much better than an SP-97, though. I think the difference between the two was something like 1-2 C. That was before lapping, though.

If you can fit this beast in your case, go for it. It'll definitely cool off your CPU pretty well 🙂

i've had one for a couple days....

it does a good job, but it won't give any better temps than a sp-94/97 with a good fan. it might bring down the noise and give the same performance...

my aerocool dp-102 actually performed slightly better with about the same noise output with two 80mm fans on a controller...

You can put an Enermax SpeedDial 120mm fan on it, which will push aprox 95 CFM @ 2300 RPM @ 30dBA.

Good luck trying to find a better 120mm fan anywhere on the planet. Belieave me I have been trying for months and this is the best fan.

I'll be getting it along with my XP-120 within a week or two.

Sure you can get 120mm fans that push nearly 150CFM but they don't come with ear plugs. They run at over 55dBA, which is more than 8 times louder than the Enermax and is only marginaly better at cooling.

120mm Globe or Acoustifan is better. Quieter. Even cheaper if you for the Globe.

Can you provide links?

The only thing I found regarding Globe in the 120mm range is a fan that put out around 64CFM @ 34dBA. That isn't better.

Acoustifan is in the same boat. 66CFM @ 34dBA. That aint better either.

I'm sure they both probably have better offerings but I can't find them on their website or anywhere else.

Not many people concerned with quiet computing will run ANY fan at 12v. The Acoustifans come w/ an inline resistor, which makes them extremely quiet. I usually run mine at 7v, at which level they are inaudible, drowned out by the zalman 7000Cu @ 7v, and my ball bearing WD hard drives.

That's neat but I think both my HD and for sure the PSU is going to make a lot more noise than my 30dBA CPU fan, which is OK by me. /shrug
