to wait, or not to wait

Recently, I sold my newest computer to a friend, and I am now looking to get a brand new one. However, I am having a bit of a problem deciding on what to do: how long should I wait before purchasing components? Common sense tells me to wait for the new technologies, such as the clawhammer from AMD and serial ATA, but are these products revolutionary enough to justify waiting 9 to 12 months? I think it gets to a point where you could end up waiting forever because there is always going to be something new and better around the corner. So, what do you guys think? Any insight would definitely be appreciated!

Unless it is coming out in less than a month, then don't wait. And when whatever you were waiting for comes out, buy then. Don't wait for the next new thing coming out in less than a month. Personally, I'm waiting for the Thoroughbreds to come out. As soon as they do, I'm gonna build my PC.

Hehe If you wait, you don't have a computer(cause you sold your computer), or do you have another to get you by before upgrading? I would get something now cause prices are good. If you want something better out in a few months, sell your config and then buy a better one with the money plus a bit extra out of your own pocket.

Well, right now I am using an older computer. Its a Compaq that was purchased as a family computer 2 to 3 years ago. I have upgraded to win2k and it runs very stable, but it is pretty slow when doing anything besides using the internet.

Right now, I am thinking about waiting a few months until this summer, when the new t-bred's become mainstream. Does this sound like this would be a good idea?
