To upgrade, or not to upgrade

Well, I'm thinking the time has come to upgrade...I can't take it anymore :D My computer isn't terribly slow, but oh well. My current specs are:

Duron 600 mhz (non OC'd, don't want the extra heat and such)
MSI K7T Pro2
Recently upgraded video card from V3 to Radeon LE (tweaked to 32MB DDR)
SB Live! X-Gamer
8x4x32 CDRW
48x Sony CD-Rom

Should I upgrade the CPU to a 1.2 GHz? or should I wait? Please advise!

I don't think you should. Are you getting slowdowns in games?

maybe u should wait, and when something new comes out wait for the price on that to lower, and when it does and something better comes out y not wait for that to get cheaper, so wait if u want, but i'd suggest getting faster cpu now, but if u want u can wait for the palomino to get cheaper(not pulling ur leg on that one ;))

Not running slower, but I could get a T-bird 1.2 GHz for about $100 and then upgrade bug is gettin to me :\ This helps though, the more people that say no I shouldn't, the better. I really don't play "recent" games because none really appeal to me. I will be playing Anarchy Online pretty soon (main reason for Vid card upgrade) I'll see how that runs, and judge from there. Do you think I should buy another 256 stick of ram to be safe?

Doubling your cpu speed for around $100 is a worthy upgrade imho
and ram is so inexpensive right now that having more also makes sense !

For $2 more I can get a 266 FSB 1.2 ghz, I know I couldn't take advantage of the 133 FSB, but could I use it at 200 fsb? I would rather do this, to be more future proof

you could run the 266fsb 1.2 at 200fsb, but you'd only be getting 900mhz (unless you unlocked the multiplier).

you didn't mention how much memory you have now, so its hard to say how useful it would be (tho it is cheap these days). if you already have a good amount (>256mb), you might just want to hold off until your next major upgrade, in case the new mobo supports ddr-ram or something else...

since you seem prepared to buy a new cpu already, i'd recommend playing around with overclocking your duron 600... (might get to 900+ easier & cooler than you think)... especially since you've stated that you don't really think your computer is too slow right now. this way you get a little more speed for now (maybe 50% more), and a little fun (since it sounds like you're upgrading cuz you're bored), and then you can wait a bit longer for a better upgrade (like johnhacker sez)
