To upgrade of not?

Hey all,

Im trying to decide if its worth it to upgrade or if I should just keep my current setup till the summer.
Heres my current system:
Intel Pentium 4 2.53Ghz 533Mhz front side bus (northwood B)
ATI 9700 AIW
768MB (had 1 gig but 256 stick went bad)
200 GB Western Digital Hard Drive

I plan on keeping the hard drive no matter what. But I was thinking about upgrading to a 3000+ 939 socket AMD and then overclocking or should I wait?

On a side note, I just formatted and I put my paging file and temp files onto a separate 10GB hard drive connected by RAID but it seems to hang up a lot...is it because of the RAID setup...any ideas?

I have about 500 dollars of money to potentially upgrade with and if I do decide to upgrade I was thinking about getting a SuperLANBOY case for the portability.

What do you guys think?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and Merry Christmas,

Bimbs

Do you feel you need to upgrade based on your performance in games/whatever? If not, keep what you have, as it's a capable setup. If not, tell us what you're looking to improve and we'll point you in the right direction.

I'd wait. Socket 939 is just getting started. It's too late to invest in a quality Socket 939/nForce3 system and nForce4 is too early to judge.

A 3000+ will not be much faster, except for some special applications (scripting languages come to mind which run really well on AMD64).

Lately, i have been doing a lot of video editing and storage. I originally wanted to upgrade to a more portable case. I was looking at the antec aria and was going to get a new microATX mobo for it and that led me to looking at a new processor. But the more I think about it mabye I will just get a new case now. Does anyone have an recomendations for a portable case thats lightweight and easy to install. Also, are DVD burners worth it or would it be better to just get another HD?

Thanks for the input!

P.S. anyone have any idea about the paging file / temp folders on a RAID setup?
