To upgrade a laptop or not

I have a Compaq Presario f560us with a S1 Sempron 3500+ @ 1.8ghz and 2 GB ram(ram is maxed out.) My question is, would it be worth it to get a cheap Turion x2 processor( Tl-52 or a 56) off ebay or should i just leave it be. This is not my main rig but if a minor investment would be worth the money and effort I might do it. I'm just not sure if i would see any speed benefit from the upgrade or not. I'm also not willing to go over $50 for this upgrade.

I will probably upgrade the wireless card to Draft N and will get a decent SSD in the near future as well.

Aren't a lot of laptop CPU's soldered in?

And no, I don't really think it'd be worth it on an older laptop like that. One that maxes out at 2gb of ram might not even support dual cores if you could

If you're not gaming or doing video rendering or compression, nix the proc upgrade, it won't make a difference.

Yeah, your hard drive is slow, it's just 5400 RPM. Upgrading to a big 7200 RPM drive is your performance ticket...the cost of SSD with current performance and capacity is not recommended, especially for a machine that old.

At the very least, the only truly valuable upgrade is Draft N.

Just saw this at SD, props go to ShadowGuard

Big and fast: WD Scorpio Black 320G. Add to cart, apply 2 coupons 3XQW3BK2SCTG4Q and JMQTDQ?BPWFFFX

Your price will become $66.87 per drive. If you order one, shipping is $4.99 ($71.86 total)

Link

This should significantly speed up your laptop's performance, and is right around your price range. And it'll put the smack-down on most small 64G SSDs that currently sell at twice the price.
