To those that have switched to a 19"LCD...

I'm in the process of buying parts for my new computer and I've been pretty pummped that it will be able to play games in 1600 X 1200 resolution. I was also thinking about replacing my 19" CRT with a 19" LCD to clear some space on my desk, but I was kind of shocked to find that the 19"LCD's I was looking at only support 1280 X 1024 resolution. Is that true for all 19" LCD's? If so, is the difference in picture quality between 1600 X 1200 and 1280 X 1024 really noticable?

At my viewing distance 19" is as big as I want to go - so a bigger screen to achieve better resolution isn't an option for me.

Move up to a 21 or 20 inch. Such as the non-widescreen equivalant of the 2005FPW the 2001FPS.

There's no picture quality difference, it's just the dimensions of things. I moved from 17" LCD to a 19" LCD. Same resolution, but everything is just bigger which is nice especially in gaming where your target just got 15% easier to aim at. :)

I don't like the 19" LCDs because of that. I'd sooner spend $400 on a 17" LCD with a better response time, higher quality panel or something. But that's kind of a personal choice thing

For me, the native res on 19's is perfect. Any smaller and I get eye-strain. I had to dump a 17 becuase of that. I couldn't stand 16x12 on anything smaller then like a 25 inch. Plus, it means you don't need an uber video card. I haven't found a game yet that isn't playable on a 9800 Pro.

I stopped using a 17" LCD at work due to some eye strain. I bought a 19" LCD at home and its much nicer. My video card really can't handle any higher than 1280 x 1024, so things work out well.

At work, I now use a Samsung 21" LCD. The pixel size is perfect, about halfway between 17" and 19" LCDs, and the resolution is 1600 x 1200. The only problem is that the response time is 25 ms, otherwise its an awesome monitor. I really like having the 1600 x 1200 desktop at work - My next home monitor will definately go higher than 1280 x 1024.

Looks great, even for gaming. 1280x1024 with all the eye candy 4xaa/16xaf still looks great to me

19in LCDs are a waste, they have the same resolution as a 17in LCD, and almost the same price of a decent 20in. No point in buying a 19in LCD at all. Spend the extra cash and get a 2005FPW.
