Which is the phone with the best reception? i currently have a SamSung 8500 Flip Phone. The reception is pretty crappy, esp when i'm at home (i live in an apartment, in Hawaii). I think Sprint is overall crap in Hawaii thought, but i was just wondering which is best for reception?

im in the kaimuki area, use the 5150 sanyo phone, and it kicks ass..

whoa i'm in the kaimuki area too, (well by kaimuki high school). 5150 is a mighty expensive phone...hmm...i should think of changing from my 8500

My experience shows Samsung has the best reception. (you might need firmware update at your local sprint store)

Since you live in the paradise, you might want to switch to GSM (voicestream, cingular) 🙂
so that you can take your phone everywhere you travel.

I have the 8500, live in Dallas, TX - I have never gotten better reception and call clarity than with this phone. (Just got it <1 month ago) It's amazing. So I'd have to say it just depends on where you live, and if you're inside a building or not

the only phone i've used is my sprint touchponit 1100.. its a year old now so im sure its been updated by something nicer.. and its only a single band so i'm sure thats makes a difference... however it gets great recpetion everywhere. no complaints here. 🙂

Just reminder that ONLY 3G DATA+ VOICE ready phone are Samsung a460 and LG 1010.

Rest of CDMA phone are 3G Voice ready ONLY! Expect to see huge price decrease and more SALE on SprintPCS phone by end of Next month.

???? My phone isnt 3g data ready? I asked the guy about that when I bought it and he showed me that the phone has "qualcomm 3g cdma" on the back.

why do you say "next month" for? Is there something you're not sharing with the rest of us? Didn't your mommy tell you it's not nice to not share... 😉

slacker: correction Sorry, I was thinking about Sprint's 5250! Your Sanyo could be 1xRTT ready, you can check it by going into debug mode.
press:
##040793 and save your phone number
go to set rate.
if it has a 1X (1xRTT) then your phone is 3G DATA ready.

AmigaMan: it is nothing secret about it. Sprint suppose to launch 3G system by July, but has postpone till Aug. My "wild guess" is that you will see sprintpcs phone will continue dropping its price or ON SALE. And you might able to see more true 3G phone in the market soon, including PDA phone.

You just made my day, there is a "1x" there and there are settings up to 144k and one that is 144/230 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Not sure, looks like it still may be up in the air...............

Q: I just read the review of the Sanyo SCP-4700, which left me puzzled. The article states that this phone is 3G capable but can't take advantage of Sprint's high-speed data network. What does that mean?
--lgambaro

A: There's a lot of confusion surrounding 3G (1xRTT) phones and what each 3G phone will and won't be able to do. First, find out if you have a 1xRTT mobile by checking to see if the back of your phone says Qualcomm 3G CDMA. If it's there, your phone contains the chip that's needed for 1xRTT network compatibility. There are two components to Sprint's 3G/1xRTT network: voice and data. Any phone that is 1xRTT ready will work on Sprint's existing 2G network and next-generation voice network. The advantages are fewer dropped calls and, ultimately, better battery life.

However, not all 1xRTT-ready phones will work on Sprint's next-generation high-speed (up to 144Kbps) data network. The company can't specify which mobiles will have that capability. At this time, while Sprint has released a few 1xRTT-ready phones (the Kyocera 2255, the Sanyo SCP-5150, and the Sprint TP5250), the company hasn't said whether these mobiles will support high-speed data access once it becomes available.

got that from here........ 3G Q&A link

I use the LG TP5200 and it has killer reception. When I was in the Caribbean last month on the Adventure of the Seas, I had great reception inside the ship. Puerto Rico & St. Thomas has Sprint towers because it was a "local" call. The phone is exetremly compact, and offers a ton of features. Highly recommended!

🙁 I returned the phone and killed sprint, couldnt get service in my house and even when I was out and about the connection and voice quality was not good, people I called sounded like they were under water a lot of the time.

I saw other much better deals for the scp-5150 like amazon at $100.00 less than I paid. they had the standard sprint $70.00 rebate and an Amazon $100.00 rebate.

Also, with the 3g issue being very unclear I decided to wait a little while.
