Like it or not, agree with it or not, many people consider their dogs & cats to be part of the family...often as cherished as if they were their own children.

When one of them gets sick or dies, it can be just as traumatic as the death of a human family member.

If you can't show compassion for the person who just lost a loved one, albeit a pet, how can you show compassion when it's a human loved one?

Remember, you can't choose your family, but you CAN choose your friends and pets...often making the bond even stronger than with family.

That's the part that I'll never understand. Maybe because I have such a great bond with my whole family? Seriously, nobody in my family has pets at all or any interest in having any. But it's impossible for me to imagine an animal on the same level as my wife/family.

*shrug* I'll just leave it there I guess.

Yes, and I can actually AGREE with what AlienCraft is saying too. He put it much better then just saying "dog hater asshole". Some of you have to realize that I'm not trying to be a dick when it comes to pets.

I'm seriously just totally lost about some of your feelings. Just like I don't understand spending $200 on jeans, or $50,000 on a car, or listening to rap music 😉

That's an awful lot. Might be worth it to tone down the rhetoric/expletives/hyperbole when dealing with others online and just be nice, even-tempered, mild-mannered.

Yes, well emotion or inflection cant be conveyed in text. Couple that with 33,000 posts and there will be some misunderstandings along the way.

By the way, far more then a dozen of us think that you are a creepy old guy.

So, you've never been attached to an inanimate object? A favorite gun perhaps or a car, a motorcycle,or maybe a favorite computer. I know I loved my 701/2 Z-28 Camaro that i built myself from the ground up. And I missed it alot when i finally had to part with it.
And you say you can't understand how somebody could be attached to an animal that has been apart of their lives for many years and often as not living in their home as a member of the family. I find that hard to believe.

No, I can't think of anything really. Sure I have plenty of favorite stuff, and plenty of irreplaceable stuff but I wouldn't be emotional about any of it.

Face it, you're entirely inconsequential . . . a tiny freckle on the enormous ass that is ATOT, if even that. 😉

Trolling doesn't get you PMs...except from mods.

I get dirty PMs from Perk all the time, does that count?

I would hope that in the grand scheme of things, I would eventually rate at least a pilondial cyst. Perhaps someday.

Quoted for the delicious ironing with the users name...

After you posted in a thread about how you were feeding your Iraqi liaison person a ration of shit (when you were in country a few years ago), I've always just sort of assumed you were sort of a heartless troll.

I have a significant lack of empathy at times myself, so go with what you do best

I'm pretty sure that you've got me confused with someone else. A ration of shit? Huh?

But I'll never see the connection that a LOT of people have to animals. I am not trolling when I say I don't like animals just like I'm not trolling when I say I don't like rap music.

You are trolling when you inject your pet hate into a thread about the death of another user's child. There was no value to taking that thread in that direction.

I realized this after the fact. I cant edit it out after it's been quoted though, but I really feel for the guy. My family has lost 2 children at a very young age and it has left permanent scars on the parents of both.

Edit - I'm still not "trolling". I never intentionally tried to anger anyone with that post.

You pissed me off.. what rock were you raised under where it was considered appropriate
to insert a plug for your anti-pet POV in a thread where a member is grieving the death of his
newborn?

You were never in country in Iraq or had a liaison or translator?

It was you. I commented on what a prick you were to the guy & you blew it off, like he was subhuman and should be accustomed to being treated like shit, that's why you don't remember, because you didn't see anything wrong to what you were doing to the guy.

That kind of stuff is typically suggestive of narcissistic or sociopathic tenancies. Am pretty sure you don't want to hear that either, but since you're posting a "I'm defending my behavior thread", you better be ready to hear what other folk think too...

I had dozens of translators, all were American citizens. I was rude to one because he was disloyal to my unit. But I never harmed any or treated any like shit.

Congratulations on your basket of assumptions though.

Pissing people off and trolling are different things. I already admitted that posting in there was wrong. And I already conceded to avoiding said pet threads. What more do you want?

No, the guy wasn't disloyal, you and your unit were treating him like shit, there was no mention of disloyalty at all, you thought it was funny as hell what you were doing, it wasn't retaliation on your part, it was just plain mean.

And the issue about you and pets, dude, one of the best things about us as a species is that we can bond with each other and other species. It's our capacity to love that sets us apart from most of the rest of the creatures on this planet.
