Why are you people such ****** morons?

The OP = moron for making this topic
The posters = morons for getting emotionally involved with tiny chips

Both companies make great CPUs.

I happen to have used AMD all my life, since they have been a better deal for my needs when i was looking for a CPU upgrade.

But i have nothing against using Intel either; who knows what the future will bring :)

I am new to Forums so I am not sure of all the protocol.
To me AMD is like the little engine that could, The David and goliath. To us mear mortals Windows is so much better than the "rom basic" of my Vic 20. lol

Thanks Gates.

There is no protocol. The "senior members" who believe they deserve special treatment, at least from "nubs," need counceling. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's here.

I use Intel at this point
Just sold off a decent AMD 64 system to get an 820

AMD's are nice chips and so are the ones from Intel

Personally I couldn't see paying almost twice the money on a chip that was maybe 20% better

LoL...
I've used Intel, AMD and Cyrix based CPU's (we'll forget about that last one). ;)
From what I've observed, some tension arose over Intel CPUs when they started locking the multipliers. Yes, AMD has done it also. But people don't forget which company was the first to start.
Another part of the ire against Intel is their constantly changing MB platforms. AMD has been a little more consistent.

I've had Intel and AMD processors that have OCd like crazy. I've also had some from each that couldn't reach much beyond default.

In the retail world, it seems AMD gives you better bang for buck. But with Dell, if you know what you're doing, all that is thrown out the window. I currently run a Pentium, because there was no way in hell I could have built a system like the one I got from dell at the price.

It's all about whatever product is better at the price point.
I may seem like an AMD fanatic when it comes to AMD desktop chips. But it's just because the Sempron is a great value, as are chips like the 64 3200+ and 64 X2 3800+.

OTOH, I may seem like an intel fanatic in the notebook forum, simply because their mobile chips are awesome. My dothan can undervolt tremendously, giving me really great battery life and essentially a fan-free laptop.

All in all, I just happen to think that currently, AMD has better desktop parts, and intel, laptop parts. :)

anybody who is a fanboy is kind of an idiot, imo.

to me it is all about performance per $ and at this time, amd has the trophy. my last rig was intel because i was doing a lot of video work and at that time the p4s were better than the amd cpus.

if intel is better than amd when i buy my next cpu, then i will switch back to intel, kind of the same thing with ati and nvidia, nvidia was on top for some time, now ati is back with the x1900xt, so i am sure nvidia will be up again when their next gen cards come out or maybe quad sli :D

for your rig, assuming that you game since you have a 7800GT your cpu will not be a bottleneck for some time with games, if that is whay you are worried about. but since the xp line at least, amd has usually done better with games.

Too true, except Intels current product excluding the 65nm offerings is garbage. But AMD's old athlon XP was garbage when compared to the P4 of the time. Both companies have made bad products.

Intel was the leader until they got lazy. AMD took advantage of that to get in the game.

AMD=better for gaming and such

Intel=better for applications and such

:)When I started building PCs, my first build was a Cyrix, I gradually moved up to AMD, and all my builds have been AMDs since. AMD's commitment to quality and improvement won me over. AMD's prices definitely were a powerful factor. With the cost of software, I always had money left over for my software purchases.
Well, it helps to be the underdog, but AMD really tried harder with innovation and design. As a nerd, I can appreciate that.
All my rebuilds have been Intels, there're good units and are cheap rethreads for my students and me. I have 2 older Intel-based pcs. They work AOK.
It doesn't matter who's the best, it who's affordable, and gives one the best results for the buck.

Basically AMD is currently making CPUs that are far better than the Intel counterparts for most uses, at least on the desktop. Intel is also a beast, they have a huge market presence and use it to try and keep that presence. My biggest fear is that Intel will force AMD out of the market at some point and we will once again only have one major CPU company, meaning no competition.

i don't think this will happen, i just wish amd could grab more of the huge oem stuff, like ibm(lenova), dell, etc. if for no other reason than competition and cheaper prices for us :D

They did grab Lenovo, at least partly. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=959

I dont have a favorite......

I look at price, performance and efficiency.

AMD = Cheaper, Better Performance, Less Power Consumption

So far, Intel hasn't been able to offer the best bang for the buck for the kind of chip I'm looking for..... not to mention AMD rocks for overclocking. They sold me a dual core chip that I turned up to 150% of stock (50% overclock) and it didn't need any extra voltage.

When I feel Intel has the advantage, I'll switch. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I've owned scads of Intel chips, from 486 up to P4 Northwood. Intel's offerings didn't inspire me during my last platform upgrade, so I bought AMD. I don't believe in loyalty to a corporate entity through thick and thin, I buy what I like the best when I look at the product market. I've owned scads of nVidia products too, but my last 3 vid cards have been ATi. Same process at work.

No, one is an AMD fan boy really you sig says "...in search of the biggest bang for the buck!" that is why everyone has an AMD64 now if intel had a better processor people would buy them the fact is that AMD owns them in single programs and multi-tasking. check the benchmarks rember when Intel was the best what did everyone have? they had Intel P4's with hyper-threading.

sorry, if this starts a flamewar but dont call everyone AMDfanboyz just because everyone has one. I mean they may prefer a company to another if it's close but it's not like people are stupid enough to buy Intel right now when AMD is cheaper and better plus most intel platforms are DDR-2 and PCI-E which means they have to get a ddr-2 memory when everyone from before already had ddr and pci-e is the only new thing that really changed.

It's just like socket AM2 it's DDR-2 and PCI-E and after seeing the becnhmarks who is really going to switch? the only reason people really switching from 754 to 939 was pci-e they wanted to be updated and ready for the new graphic cards coming out. socket AM2 preformed very close to socket 939 so why upgrade? when you have to buy a processor, motherboard, and memory.
