We recently went to our daughter's sorority lip-sync performance. A man and wife were sitting in front of us and both held their iPhones high above their head at the same time for the entire performance. I had to literally hang out into the aisle to watch the performance (which was on an elevated stage). People only care about themselves and don't care that others are there for the same reason.

Edit: And no, you cannot have pics or video of my daughter in the lip-sync competition.

If you go anywhere touristy you'll see people with iPads using them as cameras. Ridiculous. Only benefit iPad has over a real camera is the giant viewfinder for people with bad vision.

Thank you for blocking my view of my son singing christmas songs with his class. Thank you for holding it up in the air so no one even 4 rows back got a good view. Thank you for at least giving me a laugh for seeing someone using a 10inch tablet as a camera. Seriously if you are doing this you look dumb as hell. I would bet any amount of money you also have an iphone so wtf

scared to confront or what? should have talked to him to work something out at least. But no, wait and later complain in a forum where some may pretend to give a crap about your first world problem. Life won't get easier unless you make it easier, you may be amazed to find how easily most people are swayed to give into what you want.

I wish schools would put up one professional photographer and ban all cameras in the auditorium. Put the video on their website and let parents download on a whim.

That's an excellent idea.

Unfortunately, the people holding up their iPads are the same people that are so convinced of their specialness that they can't conceive of a rule that would actually apply to them...

I see this every time we go to one of my son's recitals. Usually there are multiple parents doing it.

That is so fucking retarded. I have an iPad but I don't use it as a fucking camera for events. I can't stand morons that do that.

You should have told him that he was blocking your view. If he continued, you should have knocked that shit out of his hands.

I can't find it, but there was a good scene from a steve martin movie (father of the bride?) where they went' to go see their grandson/daugthers recital and EVERYONE flipped out a big ass fucking VHS video recorder.

it was pretty funny

And Thank you as well for not bothering to notify me i was being an asshat. I appreciate you letting me take pictures of my kids christmas song performance in peace while you raged inside.

Saw this at my 3yo's "moving up ceremony". It looked so awkward it was almost comical. I mean it's different if you're streaming video to someone with it, but taking pics... ????

Good idea. Some places do hire a professional and do ban others using cameras, but since they outsource it to a local 3rd party you end up paying shit tons of money for the pics. If a school would get volunteers or photographing interns or something, who could put it on their resume without charging an arm & leg, all this could be solved.

I agree, that would be great. But you KNOW that Some Parents would think that because it was cheap, it must be low-quality, and would demand that the school hire a "professional" instead. Charging an arm and a leg shuts them up.

I dunno, the moron with their D3000 in a dark theater with the flash going off every 5 seconds is more annoying to me.

Was paid to video a piano recital. So here I am offering $10 dvds, two camera setup, microphone in the piano, etc etc, and these numbnuts are sitting in the audience with shaky hands trying to capture their own video.

Well, they DID save $10.

I love going to concerts and someone puts up their iPad to take photos. They usually get water bottles or something else promptly thrown at them.

Been seeing this a lot at weddings. I can understand smartphones and maybe even iPad Mini's as cameras-in-a-pinch, but full-sized iPads just look hilarious. Plus you only get digital zoom, so unless you're sitting right in front, you always end up with a cruddy image 😀
