To suit or not to suit

I don't know if I'd go for a suit, but at least dress nicely (figure: dress pants of a sort, dress shoes, button down shirt; no jeans or t-shirts).

Wear shorts and go commando. Make sure the interviewer sees your nutsack. But only your nutsack, as anything else might be offensive/disgusting. I've used this technique for many interviews and it has never failed me. Just remember, only let them see your ballsack; nothing else.

This is what I was thinking. It is kind of tricky because it is a mcdonalds type job but you do wear a tie doing it

I always wear nice pants, a button down shirt and a tie. Always.

ok I'll throw on a tie too. My suit is dry-clean only and really fancy looking, if it were more normal looking I wouldn't mind as much

Job is a valet at a nice hotel. I feel like a jackass wearing a suit to an interview for a minimum wage job.

I think a jacket and one of those t-shirts made to look like a tux should suffice.

How nice a hotel is it? Maybe it's the type of place that would expect you to wear a suit, even for a vallet interview if it's that nice? Or you can tie it in somehow as "i know (INSERT HOTEL NAME HERE) values proper presentation and I strive to do so in my first impression" or whatever and cheese it.

Or get laughed at and then be able to say later on you went dressed up in a suit to a valet interview. I dunno, I could imagine that could come in handy at some point possibly as a funny anecdote.

If not a suit, then the commando shorts idea gets my vote.

actually I just read it is 3 1/2 stars so I think that is basically holiday inn level, I wonder how shitty tips would be and then if I would even want to work there

The rule of thumb is to wear what the person one or two steps above you would wear. If you would normally be working in nice slacks and a tie you should at the very least wear that. Show them that you can dress how they want you to.

Why would a Holiday Inn level place have a valet?? If you're a valet, then you'll get tips. Are you passin gup offers at high level jobs to take this one? If not, why not try it out.

If you want to class up the slacks and shirt, throw on a sport coat and no tie.

Hell, if you want to class up the commando and shorts, you can do the sport coat with that too.

It is in the middle of downtown and costs $105 / night so I don't know why but they have a valet. Whatever we have a high minimum wage here so that plus even bad tips would probably be at least $12/ hr, and you're right I am not doing anything else but looking for a job downtown.

I think I'm going to go for my suit shirt and tie.. basically I look like a guy working at Radio Shack which is like 'Yes I need to look nice at my job but let's be honest I am a peon'

To me you can never go wrong with a suit to an interview (unless they explicitly state to dress casual, had a buddy who went on an interview at a construction site that didn't realize it until he showed up in a suit lol).

You idea isn't bad but I always dress to impress.

I'd kill to be a valet in Vegas. They make the bucks at the major casino's in tips. In fact, don't pay me a salary at all, I can live on the tips.
