For the prices AMD cards are going for on ebay should I sale my 7950 Boost and try and find a 770 GTX on sale for close to $300. I only game at 1080p and everything runs fine now. The card is only a few months old. I got it when Newegg was clearing them out for the new AMD cards for $150. Wish I had bought a lot of them at that price now. Will the 3G vs 2G ever make much of a difference? Should I get into mining? Power runs $0.13/kWh where I live.

I don't think mining with a single card is worth it really, I did it for a few nights and just didn't like the idea of my computer running 100% for 24/7... even with electricity being cheap.

I sold my 7950 for 300 but haven't bought a new card yet because I haven't been gaming much. I think a 770 would be perfect if you are though.

Can someone explain to a mining noob why AMD cards are so valuable to miners, but nvidia doesn't hold that same value? Thanks!

Also, I have a 7950 as well. If I dont do any mining, would selling the 7950 and picking up an nvidia card be a smart move?

AMD cards have much better mining performance than nvidia cards. Simple as that.

Selling the 7950 and picking up an nvidia card would be a great move. Now is also a great time and possibly the last chance you will have to do so.

GTX 770 @ $309 would be a nice step up from a 7950

Does that include distribution/delivery costs? Even if it doesn't, you will still be able to make a few bucks a day with a single 7950. 7950s are still one of the most efficient mining cards which is why they are still in very high demand. It's certainly not too late to get into mining.

Thats what is on the bill. It is actually $0.1268 past the first 800KW which we always pass anyway. I just rounded it. I few bucks a day sounds nice. Better than upgrading to a 770 GTX actually. I figure after ebay/paypal fees I would be doing good to break even with a 770 GTX. And an overclocked 7950 is not really that much slower than a 770 GTX unless the game really favors Nvidia. What currency do you suggest mining right now with one 7950? Should I join a pool? I assume a pool is more consistent income, while working alone is more random or a gamble as to what I will find or earn. Is that a fair assumption?

Solo mining is good for jumping in on the new coins. Block rewards are all yours to keep. It's a lot riskier since you do not know the potential value of the coins, which naturally makes the reward potential much higher.

I've stuck to LTC/doge for the past 3 months. You definitely want to join a pool if you are mining either one of those on a single 7950.

I have never joined multipool or similar pools which automatically mine the most profitable crypto and convert it to BTC. But that is also definitely another option to consider since it can easily multiply your return versus LTC or doge mining.

Damn lucky! Someone offered me 250CAD and I said no seeing how high the card goes used on ebay and new on newegg.ca...for what's left.

Most cards sell for 425+CAD...250CAD is ridiculous :p

I'm trying to decide if I should cash in on my 290 or even try some litecoin mining myself... its just one card though... so I don't know if it would be worth it or I should just sell it and get a better gaming performance card...

If you were to sell it on ebay, after all the fees and shipping costs, I doubt you would be able to get a better gaming performance card without having to invest another few hundred bucks (for a 780Ti).

My advice would be to stick with the 290 and mine on it. It's a great gaming card, only inferior to the 290X and GTX 780Ti. It's also an excellent mining card, especially if you have decent cooling, which you should have considering it sounds like you are only running one 290.

Agreed, I believe that switching to a 780 wouldn't be worth it... a 780Ti yes, but from today's prices I agree I would have to chip in extra cash.

I am only running one and have a good fan config on my case so I might as well try mining a bit... Thanks!

Thanks for the advice all. My 7950 just sold for $386 on ebay. I just picked up a GTX 770 for $300.
