to reveal the absolute truth or not?

hey guys and girls, in your present or previous relationships, did you tell your significant others EVERYTHING about your past? ie. kissing and what not?

Yes. But then again I met my future wife when I was very young (senior year of high school.) So I didn't exactly have a long history of physical relationships before that time. The farthest I'd ever gotten before her was with her best friend actually. 😀

so did you tell her you got with her best friend? ahaha dirty dawg!

no. most people understand that their SO had a life before meeting them.
i don't think i'd be with someone that demanded information from me.

She knew I did. I only dated her friend, because that was my twisted way of trying to be around her (I think that ties in with the ladder theory somehow.) My future wife had a lot of guys who she just saw as "friends" at the time (but we all know how guys see girl "friends") so I was just trying to stay in the picture to see how things developed. Her best friend was nice enough too and we still see her occasionally.

But just to echo the other comments, NO if I had been older and met somebody in my 20s I probably wouldn't reveal my entire history or expect her to do the same. At least not for a good long while until the relationship progressed.

interesting comment..why wouldnt you want to be with someone that demanded that? my gf demands to know EVERYTHING...and we will get in fights bc of it. gets tiring if you ask me! *sigh*

Down to letting him read the letters my xbf sent me.

Yikes, my ex still reads the boards once in a while. Million to one chance he'd read this post though.

because being understanding stems from a maturity i desire in a SO.

Sure, we tell each other everything... nothing to hide... and this helps to develop a very trusting relationship...

hell no...

Can I get an amen to that

this is just it..were all guys responding, im sure 90 percent of the female population would say "yes i want to know everything!!!!"

of course they do, but usually the girl wouldn't tell you all of her past either if she had a choice.

People who bug you to tell them about your past relationships will beat you over the head with it forever once you cave in and tell. Don't do it. They only want to know because they are insecure, and once you tell them you have just given them more reasons to be insecure.

If you are going to be sexually active, then you owe it to your partner to tell them enough so your partner knows what the possible risk factors are. In reality, though, the people who have had high-risk experiences lie about it anyway.

But I have yet to ever hear a good reason to tell "everything" about your past. Oh, it sounds real nice to say you share everything with your gf or bf, but from a practical standpoint there are some things that just don't need to be brought up.

Honesty is the only way to make a marriage truly work. I wouldn't recommend the baring of one's soul to anyone but the person you are prepared to spend your life with. The truth hurts, but not being able to trust your SO is a lot worse. I don't believe in demanding on the information from each other, instead, you should want to share with each other, in order to know one another better. Almost to my 13th anniversary now, and still people think we are newlyweds. And yes, we both had pasts we would rather not talk about.

Shared memories, both painful and happy, is part of marriage, I think. What's mine is his, and whatnot. You have to be able to trust your S.O. not to be upset with past memories that they weren't a part of when you share the memories with them.

Good question...

As a recovering stoner & man-whore, I told her everything with a caveat, "Any story you hear about me is more than likely true."

Learned the lesson the hard way that my memory is swiss cheesed:

Friend: "Hey, Pliablemoose, remember when we set the town sign on fire & watched it burn after you crashed that car into a building?"

Pliablemoose: "You're FOS, I never did that."

Friend: "Let me show you the photographic evidence."

& then he showed me the pics🙁

I would not.. it's none of her business, nor is her past any of mine (provided she's free from STD's, etc..) I'm 34, and at my age I just assume that she's done pretty much everything, as have I.
