How long before you could actually get the gun? Processing time for background checks, etc...

wheres a good place to buy one is another good question... Aren't the gun stores usually over priced?

I thought it depended on the state law. I think in Texas you're supposed to wait 3 days for the background check.

Correct, it varies by state.

The big dealers usually have the best prices. Google CDNN Investments and download their PDF catalog.
You can also find good deals at gunshows and haggle more to lower the price.

You may not need a waiting period, if you go to a gun show, you'll likely run across a private seller walking around with what you want to buy-no waiting period or background check.

The dealers at gun shows are usually pretty reasonable & you can likely haggle them down, scope out all the prices, go to the 2nd or 3rd lowest, tell them you've found it cheaper, can they beat the price? If not, just buy it from the cheapest dealer...

All depends on local laws.

Most states you can walk in & buy one, the background check is quick & painless.

In Dallas, Tx last September, it took 15 minutes at an Oshmans to get my beretta...fill out the form and if there are no red flags that come up, you walk out the door with your new sidearm.

seriously, you just need to go up to a sporting good store in your area and ask...that would better than than people on this forum guessing what laws apply in your state...(no offense to those who said to check your local laws already)...

good luck..
